Prototype 2 has snuck up on us, as we prepare to meet James Heller and take down New York later this month. Honestly, one of the key reason to buy Prototype 2 is its status as the game to buy this April. That’s primary because everything else out this month is a HD remake, delayed Japanese localisation or utter rubbish.
While it’s made it to the top of the must buy list through process of elimination, Prototype 2 is shaping up to be awesome, and here are eight reasons why:
James Heller
Prototype 2 introduces us to new protagonist James Heller. We like it already. As well as a totally rad leather jacket, Heller brings a raft of new abilities to the table as you jump, climb and bounce your way around New York.
Side Note: Make sure you enter our competition to win James Heller’s leather jacket. There are only five in Australia.
Be Totally Badass
James Heller is one badass dude. That’s what Prototype was all about, and signs suggest the sequel will be even more crazy. Loosely flying limbs and gore are at a maximum as our new protagonist goes to town on absolutely everything in his path.
Hammerfists
Take a leap of faith, surpass the tallest of New York’s skyscrapers and come crashing down to Earth with the full force of gravity behind you. At the pivotal moment, brace yourself for impact -- destructive impact -- by locking your enormous claws into attack position to make mince meat of the world below.
Shapeshifting
One of Heller’s signature abilities is shapeshifting. However, it’s not your standard choice between a handful of mutations. James can combine abilities from one form with another, so that you can essentially create your own form of destructive prowess. Don’t get bogged down in mainstream destructive convention: mutate and invent your own unique style of mercilessly murdering everyone.
Warp Vortex
The Warp Vortex is exclusively available in the Colossal Mayhem DLC pack, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome. These violent twisters help you along your merry way on Heller’s path of destruction.
Explosive Mayhem
Prototype 2 might as well be one big fireball. Watch New York crumble at your feet as you take down helicopters, destroy buildings and fire rocket launchers in very inappropriate settings with devastating consequences, Devastating, that is, if you’re not James Heller.
Chopper Jumping
Prototype 2 is full of new ways to destroy military machinery. You can dominate a tank with a sweet roundhouse kick or beat it to death with a its partner in crime. The clear standout, however, is helicopter jumping. To hell with trying to tackle choppers from the ground. Level the playing field, literally, by jumping directly onto a chopper and watching it fall hopelessly down to Earth after you’ve snapped it in half. Nice clean break, too, and only a little bit on fire before it slams into the street below.
Menacing Bosses
James Heller is nigh on indescribable. He is a machine, capable of sliding through chopper blades and kicking tanks in half without as much as a scratch. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he is invincible. Radical have promised massive, menacing bosses to match Heller’s insane powers that are unmatched by anything in the natural world. Enter the realm of the terrifying supernatural.
