From DC to Marvel and Web Comics to The funnies you find in the morning paper, comics can be found in lots of places. I read comics everyday, and have been for many years. This thread is for anyone and everyone who wants to talk about comics.

Interesting indeed, if they get the makers of both IP's to work together it would be epic. The challange would be to keep both fans happy. Maybe instead of the good guys from both sides working together they could team up and fight a new enemy.

Somewhere in my house I have a issue number 1 of Spawn, for a long time I thought it was worth a fortune until my friend told me I have the Australian release and it's not worth sh** :(

I think I'm going to try reading some comics now.

Is there any good comic book readers for iPhone?

I don't have an iPad and I don't use my computer enough to read the significant backlog of comics I have. I have always assumed reading comics on the iPhone would be hard, but I thought I might ask you guys anyway...

EDIT: Did some reading of my own, Comic Zeal seems to be the best. I'll check it out when I get home :D

Read Batman and Robin and nightwing, they are the best behind the Batman series.
Drop dark knight and Catwoman, they suck :P

I didn't know that Penance made his first appearance in the civil war. I haven't read too much of the extra Civil War tie ins, just whatever was in the big ass civil war: spider-man hard cover collected edition. Can you recommend any good Penance related stories?

The bulk of the current Avengers comics running now all started in May of 2010. The Avengers, The New Avengers, The Secret Avengers and Avengers Academy all started around May/June of '10, and they all still run today.

The Main Avengers comic (... The Avengers lol) I have just started reading this week. I have read the first 6 issue, and I enjoyed them. This would be a good starting point for new readers. You can pick up Trade Paperbacks or Hard Covers of it pretty cheap (around $15 - $25 depending where you shop.) My local comic shop actually had new version of issue one that were free to get people hyped for the new film. Check your local comic shop to see if they have any stock left.

I have read all of The Secret Avengers. I loved it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just wanting to read about the well known everyday Avengers. I have not read any of The New Avengers, but I have ordered all of them today :P When tehy arrive i'll let you know.

I have not read any of Avengers Academy, nor do I plan on it. Marvel also launched a new Avengers Series last Month. It's called Avengers Assemble and it is a Movie Tie-In. It is set in current comic continuity, but features Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and The Incredible Hulk as the central stars. The other Avengers (like Spider-Man, Red Hulk, Wolverine etc.) have made appearances already, but since it's a tie-in it focuses on the film characters.

I think The Main Avengers series would be better, but Assemble will probably be enough if you want just a bit of story.

Thanks Snix for the reply, I'll try to look into getting the main avenger story. As you mention, I would most likely not be fond of reading something without any well known avengers. So I think I'll try to stick to the main one. As for Assemble, I probably prefer to keep comics and movie separate because I don't like the idea of tie-in between the two.

It's not a bad book so far. It has nothing to do with the plot of the film, and like I said earlier the characters are already well established in current continuity. The first Arc involve the Team against the Zodiac. It was made so that people, like you, have a series to read that they won't need to catch up to.

I have just sorted through my comics rack. I moved it higher on the wall so that the last book on the shelf can actually be seen. There are 10 spots on the rack, so I can only have 10 different series on there at once. I just took off The Punisher and added The Avengers instead. I also removed Sonic Universe altogether and kept an empty space for The New Avengers (when they all arrive :P).

@Snix Penance is predominately mention in Civil War and Thunderbolts, looks up Thunderbolts, definitely. It's Norman Osborn running a team of reformed villains, I love the whole arc they have going with that, I'll try to look up the specific comics I have and get back to you soon.

Penance is so awesome dude, after Iron Man he's my favourite hero, flat out.

Is the 'The new avengers' comic any good? I looked it up on wikipedia and found the team of characters in there to be quite interesting, like spiderman, wolverine and dr. strange.

I've been watching the new spiderman animated series so seeing spiderman and iron fist together caught my interest. I think the new animated series is suppose to be their take on the new avengers.

So yeah, if anyone read 'The new avengers', tell me if you liked it or not and if it's worth reading.

My fav books are Sweet Tooth, Swamp Thing, Animal Man and The Walking Dead. Have really enjoyed the couple of issues of Saga that have out so far, and looking forward to the Valiant relaunch.

I read all the Batman books as well, and a few oth DC titles like Stormwatch and Grifter

I was going to say that. only in opposite. I used to hate Marvel until i read fantastic four. I still like Dc more, but not superman too much...batman should've been taken over the justice leauge. Does anyone know what the rarest DC comic book is?
p.s. catwoman is awesome. she should have batman's babies.

I couldn't say for sure what the rareest book is, but you'd gotta imagine it's something like Action Comics #1 or Detective Comics #1. Golden age comics that are in good condition will fetch you a lot of money, especially if it has the first appearance of a popular character.

Read the first two seasons of the Ultimates. It's a re-boot of the Avengers in current times. Excellent comic, Mark Millar writes it like it's a movie.

If you want to read ones set in the 616 start at Avengers 500 (Avengers Disassembled) and read them all from there. Avengers, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Secret Avengers and all the current running series. I skipped Avnegers Academy. Stick primarily with the Bendis series. He is excellent.

They're some good books. Have you checked out Y: The Last Man or Chew? You'd probably like them too.

EDIT: Pretty sure the Walking Dead game is out this week.

I like Ultimate Spider-man. Most people who picked it up after the Spider-man movies seem not to though. The concept of the Ultimate line is simply re-booting the characters in the modern day, something the movies are also doing.

Comic book fans are used to origin stories being retold and updated, movie fans aren't as much. They are getting used to remakes, but they are still compared rather than being seen as a seperate entity.

I'm a big X-Men and Mark Millar fan, but I wasn't overly fussed on his Ult X-men run, and probably didn't enjoy the title from there on in as a result. The Ult Fantastic Four was good (it kicked off the Marvel Zombies thing).

There have been some limited series as well that were good. I do think that Ultimates and Ultimate Spider-man are the two strongest books though.

There are so many comics I want to read but it is all so overwhelming.

I'll just keep pushing through Hellblazer, once I get bored of that I might start checking out other comics.
