Third Person vs. First Person

Just tried gears of war 3 beta and straight away I cringed when i saw that it was third person.. I frantically tried all the buttons thinking it was like fallout and that i could change it to first.. I was wrong.. Most games I like first person.. Only game that i really enjoying in third person was infamous.. I try so hard to get into the game.. I played 3 levels of dead space and still just hated the third person aspect then i just hated the game.. I never play third person in the fallout or oblivian it just doesn't feel right.. Batman AA and infamous i enjoyed but not sure why i cant get into many others.. Majority of my games are first person..

I never really liked third person, apart from GTA, and then I played Just Cause 2 extensively and I quite like this perspective now. Certainly allows you to take in more of the environment.

oh yeah i forgot just cause2 thats another one i liked.. but really theres not many.. maybe its just the type of game as well :S

I tend to enjoy third person games a lot more on consoles and have generally sucked with anything in first person except on a PC (and red faction on console which I enjoyed to the very end for some reason - maybe it was easy?)

On pc, I don't have a problem with either.

I really enjoy third person, dead space is just epic, as for fallout an oblivion these games controlled horribly in third person, great games but only in first person.

It really depends on the type of game you are playing. Games like gears could work in first-person, but it would feel very much like all the other shooters.

there also seems to be more variety when it comes to third persons, first person games for the most part are shooters and well, you just really have to love that genre to play it on a console ;) (only kidding) but shooters aren't my thing. You do get the odd one out like mirrors edge (ugh).

Well, I might as well repeat myself. :P

I prefer third person more because you're more aware of your surroundings and you can pick on your enemies' locations easier, even if they're trying to hide in some cheap corner. FPS makes me feel a little cramped and your whole corner screen is of no use so the enemy can practically be near you if they know your blind spot.

I love third person games. They allow a lot more adventure than first person games.

I've only played GoW2 for a short time, and hated it.

GTA, and other sandbox variants, is probably where I draw the line with third-person.

First person in any conventional shooter, and generally just first person period. I prefer third person in rare situations like survival horrors because it instantly slows me down and makes shooting harder which suits the genre better. GTA4 was fairly bearable as a third person shooter, but then I modded it to be a first person shooter and it seemed better so there goes that...
