Welcome to the MyPS3 Folding@Home official team thread!

Our team number is 60766.

The Folding@Home application can be found under Network in the PS3 XMB. To join the MyPS3 team, open up Folding@Home, go to options, identity and then join an existing team.

Folding@Home is an application which you can download for your PS3 which helps medical research on protein folding for Stanford University. Further knowledge of how protein molecules behave will hopefully lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimers, Hungtintons as well as some forms of cancer. Please contribute as much as you can, as every bit of help counts.

my ps3 is crankin out 3 work units a day pretty consistently (on the days i dont play games).. im getting various points though coz im running in advanced mode.. i might get 700pts work somedays.. others more like 1200pts! haha anyone else experiencing this sorta thing? advanced mode or normal?

Seriously they ought to make it like the PS3 app and have an option to run in the background. It has all the finesse of a single threaded app on the PS3. I should be able to listen to music or play a DVD or Blu Ray with it running in the background. That was the whole point of it on the PC. You could do other stuff.

Yea, I know what you mean Mobe1969.

I'm confused why Folding@Home can't run in the background when you're playing a blu-ray movie, or playing music or even playing a game.

None of the games currently use the PS3 to its full potential right? Surely it can run in the background using a certain percentage of the PS3's resources ...

Unless there is something fundamentally flawed with the PS3 OS architecture, it certainly should be able to run in the background.

And thinking about it, downloads can run in the background, so it can obviously multitask.

I've done 10 work units, but I seriously won't run it again unless they bring out a non-suck version that can run in the background.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to have a lite version that uses leftover resources while the PS3 is doing other stuff, but then that'd be quite complicated to code for I'd think and it could potentially overload the system which could lead to problems.

But F@H is supposed to be run when you're not using your PS3 anyway, which is probably longer than the amount of time you actually are using it.

The PC version does. The OS handles it. Unless the PS3 OS makes it very difficult to do I can't see the problem. At any rate I'm supposed to leave my PS3 on 24/7 burning the equivalent of two 100W light bulbs. Not particularly environmentally friendly...
