Welcome to the MyPS3 Folding@Home official team thread!

Our team number is 60766.

The Folding@Home application can be found under Network in the PS3 XMB. To join the MyPS3 team, open up Folding@Home, go to options, identity and then join an existing team.

Folding@Home is an application which you can download for your PS3 which helps medical research on protein folding for Stanford University. Further knowledge of how protein molecules behave will hopefully lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimers, Hungtintons as well as some forms of cancer. Please contribute as much as you can, as every bit of help counts.

the SMP client is in 'beta' but most people run it fine.. and you'll kill just bout anyone in the points! wutang for team leader in less than a month! haha

Realised the trick behind it (I'm on Vista Ultimate x64) was to create a shortcut to CMD, right-click on it and click "Run as administrator".

hey guys curious question - ever since i failed to finish a 38 hour WU in time and recieved no points for it i have been getting really short units, like 6-7 hour ones constantly, and each one has been gaining me no more than 250 points! i AM definitely in advanced mode so im just wondering what the hell's going on? should i try going back to normal mode for 1 fold and switch back again and see what happens? what do you reckon?

I'm confused. My computer's "seems" to be folding for hours now, and I don't know how to check its progress.

All I see is:

[23:07:36] + Processing work unit
[23:07:36] Core required: FahCore_a1.exe
[23:07:36] Core found.
[23:07:36] Working on Unit 01 [February 21 23:07:36]
[23:07:36] + Working ...

And it's stuck like that for hours. Task Manager actually shows all 4 of my cores at 100% ...

i'm not totally sure.. but the computer client seems to make a little 'history' of your folding as a file.. so say i've had my puter on 24/7.. it will give me bigger work units as i can return them quicker than someone that only folds once a week for 8 hours. It might be that it saw that you did not go well with that big work unit so its not giving you any of em again anytime soon.. but i could be totally wrong.. just complete randomness sometimes.

There should be some 'monitor' programs available for download off the folding community forum. As for task manager.. it should definitely be showing 100% on all cores.. I'm sorry i can't help ya out too much wiht the SMP client.. i've only ever personally used 5.03 and 5.04 single core versions.

By now, my PS3 probably would've completed 2 WUs already.

My PC hasn't even completed 1? Something fishy ...

I need to get the GUI version (the one I'm using atm is run through Command), but the beta has expired. Just have to wait patiently ...

man, this just sucks. my slowed 64kb connection means i cant upload my last WU, or download the next one, it just keeps timing out.

they'll never trust me to do big folds again at this rate. i'll be getting 250 points per unit forever now, slowly slipping down the list into useless obscurity

Oh ... maybe my F@H SMP Client is doing something after all ... I read this in the FAQ:

How do you decide the credit value of SMP work units?

Points are determined by the performance of a given machine relative to a benchmark machine, similar to the CPU client benchmark process. Before releasing any new project (series of work units), we benchmark it on a dedicated Macintosh Pro with 2 - 2.33 GHz Dual Core Xeon processors. (more specifically, 2 Woodcrest 5140 processors with 4 MB cache (each), 5 GB FBDIMM Memory (667 MHz DDR2), 1.33 GHz Bus)

We plug the results of this benchmark test into the following formula:

points = 1760 * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is the number of days it took to complete the work unit.

Days per WU? Holy crap! My PS3 > my PC?

Edit:
Cool ... I'm doing 5000 steps every 9.5 minutes.
Should mean I get a WU completed every 15.83 hours ...

haha sorry man really.. don't take my words as gospel.. i could very well be wrong.. This is the list of work units with their points... there is still quite a few 250 point WUs.. i just think you might be having a bad run. fah-web.stanford.edu/

I think this only applies to SMP work units.. all other work units including PS3 having pre-set points - This is the project summary page like i posted above for ozchap - fah-web.stanford.edu/

I wouldn't worry bout having your PS3 on all the time - Sony tested the console's cooling system & stability by using the Folding@Home program and came out of test 100%! (the 360 wouldn't have haha)
Just keep an eye on ya power bill.. i dont wanna scare anyone here.. its gunna add up.. but its not gunna be huge at all.. ya fridge etc. will still use a lot more. My fan only cranks up to a noticeably loud level when the room is 30-35 degrees Celsius .. If you got it in a cabinet or sumthan.. open the doors up or something.. or consider moving it to a new spot.

i know! these 250pt units are killing me

and now that ive slowed to 64kb, i cant fold anymore until saturday (the 1st). the WU i spent last saturday doing still wont upload so even if i COULD download the next one it would be pointless. so go hard this week mate, if you can get some expensive units you'll be in my rear view mirror in no time, ive just stalled it

Those who are using SMP Client and experiencing a "FILE_IO_ERROR" ... I think it's because Folding@Home couldn't delete the files from the previous completed WU.

To fix this, delete the FahCore_a1.exe, queue.dat and the work folder in your Folding@Home installation folder.

Those that have the code "GRO-SMP", I'm presuming are for the SMP Clients? And GRO-PS3 for the Playstation 3 folders?

I'm presuming this, because my computer is currently working a project that's listed there, and the code is "GRO-SMP"
