Welcome to the MyPS3 Folding@Home official team thread!

Our team number is 60766.

The Folding@Home application can be found under Network in the PS3 XMB. To join the MyPS3 team, open up Folding@Home, go to options, identity and then join an existing team.

Folding@Home is an application which you can download for your PS3 which helps medical research on protein folding for Stanford University. Further knowledge of how protein molecules behave will hopefully lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimers, Hungtintons as well as some forms of cancer. Please contribute as much as you can, as every bit of help counts.

Haha, maybe not billionaires, but have you heard that Sony is considering commercial use the PS3?

Random companies would use our PS3s for research and whatnot in return for free games, etc.

Of course if this happened, Sony should make it that people have to do like at least 1 or 2 work units for medical research a week, if not not many people would continue folding for mankind, but for themselves!

The idea of giving away our "folded molecules" to commercial companies is simply atrocious. If Sony is caring more about earning profits rather than saving mankind then I am going to stop folding forever...not unless Sony gives me free games for each amount of folds!

But yeah, Sony should NOT allow commercial companies to take advantage its consumers.

Like I said, if it does go into commercial use, it should be made that you have to do as many Folding@Home work units as you do for other companies.

But it would be cool if Sony could give prizes to the most active folders in the world. Maybe an invite to the Home beta!

a competition would be an awesome idea - prizes would be great! maybe based on monthly performance?

as for the Folding - it wouldn't be Sony you'd be stickin it up to, it'd be Stanford, which would be unfortunate... so to stick to Sony, you'd have to chuck your PS3 and cut up your game discs and record a youtube video about it! lol
