Welcome to the MyPS3 Folding@Home official team thread!

Our team number is 60766.

The Folding@Home application can be found under Network in the PS3 XMB. To join the MyPS3 team, open up Folding@Home, go to options, identity and then join an existing team.

Folding@Home is an application which you can download for your PS3 which helps medical research on protein folding for Stanford University. Further knowledge of how protein molecules behave will hopefully lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimers, Hungtintons as well as some forms of cancer. Please contribute as much as you can, as every bit of help counts.

Summers kicked in for us too, extra thermal strain especialy for the older 60Gig models(that eat more power).
Maybe those with a PC should GPU fold, i'v just started my GPU client. Get a GeForce 9600 or 8800 better graphics card and fold with that. The GPU client kicks ar$e over the PS3 any how. A GF8800GT will fold 6000+ ppd and more. I'm folding on a cheap less productive GF9500GT (rrp$100) does 1000-1600ppd, good enough.

As Peakon said too leave it running on the F@H atom veiwer, turn the screan saver on too for total GPU power used to the folding processe.

Perssonaly once my warranty runs out on my PS3 i'm ganna open it and and blast the dust out with a can of compressed air and service the fan bearings while im at it. DIY service.

Maybe contact Sony and send it now, its obviously not working they way its intended to. If you cant fold 24/7 on it with out giving up the ghost, thens its not of satisfatory operation. Sony and Pande team have indicated thats its ssfe to fold 24/7 (given) or they wouldn't have a program as such onboard.

wont be doing it until Feb/March. its too busy & hot at this time of year and im too sick to be lugging that thing around. plus i still havent decided if im going to just take a new 80g one instead of having them repair my old 60g (extended warranty)......i can still keep the same 320g internal drive im using now anyways....... or maybe i can even do both, if im lucky, and just get a "loaner" from the store until mine comes back from Sony. i still have 10 ps2 games and no ps2 so it would be nice to keep the 60 but what can ya do?

Let's hope Life with Playstation gets an update very soon.
Same as the PS3 firmware.. all sorts of Messages, Friends, Trophies actions need to be smoothed out.. as they lag quite badly!

I'd like to organise a little competition between my folding team Aussie Rules Footy and MyPS3 AU!

I was thinking that we could host a competition once a year in Winter, where we either try to make as many points as a team each for a set period (say 2 weeks to a month), or we have a target of say first team to add another 1 million points to their total.

Winter would be a good time, coz ppl can add more machines when its cooler, and running PS3s and computers 24/7 in Winter is beneficial, as they act like little heaters.

'MyPS3 AU vs. Aussie Rules Footy Winter Warmer Foldathon!' lol something like that

whats everyone think?

currently, going by both our team's points per week figures, my team would come out on top.. but MyPS3 has more team members, so has the potential to get more active again, and Winter is a fair way off.. plenty of time to get ppl in the spirit again!

We need more PS3 folders guys.. OS Stats show less than 50,000 active PS3 folders! It was over 60k when games like MGS4 and GTA4 come out.. no reason why it can't be kept over 60k and even push for 100k active folders.

only 'uses' internet at the start and end of each 'work unit' which roughly take between 4-8 hours to complete. So it doesn't suck ya bandwidth or nothing.. maybe 1-3mb download and simliar upload per work unit.. maybe less.

Medical research for Stanford University. the ps3 goes through millions of calculations theoretically folding proteins to help search for answers to all sorts of diseases like cancer, alzheimers etc.....you can never have enough computer power working on important things like that so anyone around the world can help out via ps3, PC or whatever

its 99.99% processor/0.01% bandwidth, if you left it folding 24-7 for a week it might use up about 100mb

don't worry bout your PS3 failing either if ya fold 24/7 .. the PS3 is very reliable.. and YLOD issues are very uncommon and many aren't related whatsoever to overheating.

I've been foldign for over 15 months straight now.. my PS3 has rarely been switched off.. and no troubles to report so far.. still folding strong!

Yeah i fold still. Just not for MyPS3 anymore. no one folds on this team anymore, so i banded with OCAU to at least keep competative.

This team needs a foot up the *ss! lol whats happened to all the keen PS3 folders?

Folding@Home doesn't have to be all 24/7 folding etc.. but it is a great project to be a part of and every PS3 owner out there would be still be helping out enormously even if they just do one work unit a week! (use Automatic Shutdown -> After Current

)

I'll give this team my full support for a while yet (even though i have my own team) .. but if things continue to die .. i'm gunna start poaching top folders! lol come on MyPS3 AU .. fold on!

Life with Playstation Update 1.1 Full Details List
Just turned on my Life w/Playstation, and look what I found, Update 1.1.

Update 1.1 Changes

Added support for adding and removing channels dynamically

• Added a local time display in the LIVE CHANNEL.

• Updated Mood categories for auomatic music selection.

• Added support to enable Folding@home Expert Mode which disables all other channels and features that may impact simulation performance.

Folding@home Expert Mode can be activated by navigating to :
Options Menu > [Configuration] > [Folding@home].

Edit:

Expert Mode - Folding@home™ is the only channel enabled. All application processing power is used exclusively for Folding@home™ and no other channels can be browsed.
Note: While in this mode, channel updates are also disabled.

The ability to turn F@H off is not so other applications have more power.. they don't need it.. Its simply so people aren't forced to Fold@Home.. It also stops casual users downloading work units without returning any, ever. So if you don't want to fold, switch F@H off, it'll be better for you and F@H.

All 'channels' will be designed to work whilst folding, thats just how it is.. so they're never going to be intensive applications. I wish that VidZone was a LwP app tho

MyPS3.com.au members... Folding@Home is great project to be apart of! I strongly urge you guys to give it a go (or for you existing team members - give it another go)

If these Team is truly dead then anyone keen can join mine (PM me

) but it'd be good to see the MyPS3 AU Folding@Home Team climb up the ranks again! You guys are still in the top 1,000 Teams (although my team is a fair bit ahead lol) and that's a bloody good achievement, so guys, don't quit, keep folding!

No one expects you to fold 24/7, some choose to (like me) and some can fold less often.. all that it takes to be considered an 'active' team member is one work unit per week! Thats only 4~8 hours per week! Of course its good and more helpful to do more, but if the 90+ team members on your team folding again, it'd all add up!
