THE Governor of Kerobokan jail has confirmed that Schappelle Corby's sentence will end on September 20, 2017. However, the 24-year-old convicted drug smuggler may be released sooner if granted further remissions for parole. Corby, who was arrested in 2004 attempting to smuggle 4.1kg of marijuana into Bali in a bodyboard bag, applied for clemency two years ago on the grounds she was suffering from a mental illness that could endanger her life.

Maybe someone can shed some light on this. My mate and I were discussing this chick and what she'd do when she's released. I said she'd make a killing in book sales and interviews but my mate says she won't be able to profit from a crime. I thought it might be different because it happened in another country.

From what I've read (based on David hicks and shapelles previous book) the laws are murky with regards to profits. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't already at least a book ready and waiting for her release (ghost written, of course). That said chopper read made plenty of cash out of his books which deal with crimes that were committed on Australian soil. I personally think that she's guilty, and I'm sick of circus that the Aussie media make of it. If she were less attractive, older, male or non-white her story wouldn't have received half the attention and no one would have doubted her guilt

And you think Corby is the only one in an Indonesian jail for drug offences? There are hundreds, if not thousands that you never hear of. She was cute, and her family were the ones to contact media and reap the benefits of Schappelle taking the fall for her old man. They were the only reasons why the media makes a thing of it. Bogan, flog of a family. She did it. Anyone that agrees has the conviction as proof. Anyone that says she's innocent is really just falling for the very media circus they say is responsible for her guilt. Good luck to her. 10+ years in jail for breaking the law in another country. Sure, it's harsh, but she was convicted and punished. Time to move on.

The problem I have is that rapist and murderer's in Bali get off with less of a sentence. Oh yeah, I know there are more like theses. Seen that movie with claire danes in it? Forgot what it was called.

But then again, why do they allow alcohol, but are so against drugs? Probably because alcohol makes them a lot of money through tourist spending up big time I guess. A bit double standard, if that is in fact the case.

Majority of Balinese people more than 90% are Hindu and marijuana and other drugs isn't a taboo in the Hindu religion than the other religions but since Bali is under Indonesia government its their law so yeah. Since Bali is a party holiday destination u get alot of customers demand which means more dealers demand supply so u get dealers paying alot for smugglers to get more that includes importing them. My friend went to Bali 3 times and said it wasn't hard to buy drugs there because the dealers come to u and harass u to buy.
