[OTN] Schappelle Corby Sentence Ends In 2017

2200 Views 36 Posts On The News

THE Governor of Kerobokan jail has confirmed that Schappelle Corby's sentence will end on September 20, 2017.

However, the 24-year-old convicted drug smuggler may be released sooner if granted further remissions for parole.

Corby, who was arrested in 2004 attempting to smuggle 4.1kg of marijuana into Bali in a bodyboard bag, applied for clemency two years ago on the grounds she was suffering from a mental illness that could endanger her life.

So looks like the end of Schappelle's nightmare is almost over. I'm still not convinced that she's innocent, But i'm still not convinced that she's guilty. The whole thing, To me, Is still a bit iffy. But innocent or guilty, She's doing the time.

Reckon she will go back to Bali after release? :P

I kinda feel sorry for her cause 20 years just for drugs whether she did it or not is stupid.. Just stupid..
I think she was innocent to begin with. The media wanted you to think otherwise. If I was PM I would've got her back to Aust straight way, before she went to court, with there stupid laws in bali. Even if it meet going to war with them.
Meh she should have been left to serve her full sentence.
Everyone knows that if you commit a crime in those types of countries than you are in a lot of trouble, shes lucky to still be alive.
...I still reckon she did it...I met her sister when I was in Qld once, and yeah...she did it...

Yeah that was pretty harsh.

Maybe someone can shed some light on this. My mate and I were discussing this chick and what she'd do when she's released. I said she'd make a killing in book sales and interviews but my mate says she won't be able to profit from a crime. I thought it might be different because it happened in another country.
Come back to Australia, live on fast food and gain 50 kilos.

Me and my mates had this conversation on Friday night. I guess we're a bit more shallow :P
Meh agree with others,
Knowing what Bali's like with drug smuggles she'll prob be out by 2015 at latest with further remissions and possible parole.
I think she was guilty and if so 2015 means she'll have done 11yrs.
Not bad considering what could have happened to her.

From what I've read (based on David hicks and shapelles previous book) the laws are murky with regards to profits. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't already at least a book ready and waiting for her release (ghost written, of course). That said chopper read made plenty of cash out of his books which deal with crimes that were committed on Australian soil.

I personally think that she's guilty, and I'm sick of circus that the Aussie media make of it. If she were less attractive, older, male or non-white her story wouldn't have received half the attention and no one would have doubted her guilt
How much would she get if she didn't caught and was it worth it?

A Vietnamese kid got busted around the same time as she got caught and he was executed. There's a couple articles on him and then it was long forgotten.
Ask any one on the Gold Coast about the Corby family.. lol.
They're all drug smugglers? [Shifty]
I hate spending time in a small Bali prison cell with 10 others because I be uncomfortable pleasuring myself when there's no privacy. :S

And you think Corby is the only one in an Indonesian jail for drug offences? There are hundreds, if not thousands that you never hear of.

She was cute, and her family were the ones to contact media and reap the benefits of Schappelle taking the fall for her old man. They were the only reasons why the media makes a thing of it.

Bogan, flog of a family. She did it. Anyone that agrees has the conviction as proof. Anyone that says she's innocent is really just falling for the very media circus they say is responsible for her guilt.

Good luck to her. 10+ years in jail for breaking the law in another country. Sure, it's harsh, but she was convicted and punished. Time to move on.

Agreed.

The family is an absolute laughing stock on the Gold Coast and is WELL known for their "Shady" behaviour over the years, in fact many years before Shapelle was even involved.

As for the sentence. Every one knows the rules are harsh in those countries. Is it over kill, probably- but it's their country and their law.

Who's dumb enough to that much dope in boogie bag, afterall through customs [Facepalm]. The problem I have is that rapist and murderer's in Bali get off with less of a sentence.
Oh yeah, I know there are more like theses. Seen that movie with claire danes in it? Forgot what it was called.

Sounds about right. Seems like all countries are trying to do this. Oh no dope. Whats it going to do? You hear all the time about murders happening and the person only gets 5 years. Yet if its drugs its close to a life sentence.

The law sometimes....
I think that the reason why drugs are so harshly looked upon in Indonesia, is because their country is predominately Muslim. But then again, why do they allow alcohol, but are so against drugs? Probably because alcohol makes them a lot of money through tourist spending up big time I guess. A bit double standard, if that is in fact the case.

Majority of Balinese people more than 90% are Hindu and marijuana and other drugs isn't a taboo in the Hindu religion than the other religions but since Bali is under Indonesia government its their law so yeah. Since Bali is a party holiday destination u get alot of customers demand which means more dealers demand supply so u get dealers paying alot for smugglers to get more that includes importing them.

My friend went to Bali 3 times and said it wasn't hard to buy drugs there because the dealers come to u and harass u to buy.
