Can you play PS3 on a laptop/computer monitor?

I would think it would be possible, but do you need a special kind of monitor, and what cables would be necessary.

Well, all I can contribute ... is that the monitor I have (dodgy AOC 2212Ph) supports component, DVI and HDMI connections. So I have my PS3 and Xbox 360 connected to my PC monitor via HDMI ... and to my PC via DVI

Hmm...well I have a laptop that is about 2 yrs old, which was quite a good one at the time. Is a DVI-HDMI cable all that's needed?

I think theres a matter of your monitor needing to be able to support HDCP to make DVI-HDMI to work. Cause my 19" LG WS Flatron LCD supports it and I play my PS3 through DVI-HDMI and it works flawlessly

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop. Not the greatest, but it has a reasonably good screen.

on ebay there is like a usb tv card that u can get from hong kong one of the boys i live with has one and uses it to play wii through his computer cause it has RCA inputs into it... so look for that on ebay...

your laptop monitor wont have (or VERY rarely does it have) an input to be able to plug any video source into. Most Laptops now have a DVI/HDMI output to be able to link to a suitable external screen. PC monitors are slightly different in that they will have an input for video playback, but as mentioned before, full support for PS3 output (hdcp) is still quite uncommon.

regarding the USB TV card - dont bother! It's ok for picking up the odd TV show, but again the PS3 output is too much for it. You'll need to run on the RCA connections, which all but destroy the picture quality...and I believe (from when I tried it) you lose sound too! A better option would be to save you $$$ and get a cheap/small HD ready TV.....

Nah that's fine. That's actually what I wanted to know. I'm planning on getting a job one my final exams are over this year and then saving up some money to get an LCD

That's actually a good suggestion. You can even get TV cards which support component connections (I think they're Leadtek TV cards).

So yea, then you run the TV card program on your computer ... and that program displays your PS3 screen

i got an lg flatron W2252TQ conencted to my ps3 with dvi. its right next to my bed =) only goes up to 720p but its only22 inch so it still looks awesome. I picked it up at msy for under 250. any computer monitor will work if its got a hdmi connection. if its dvi you need it to have hdcp. dell had a deel on a 24inch recently for like $310 i think, but you can pick up a decent lcd for under 3 or 400 depending on what size you are looking for.

yes, connected hdmi to dvi, plug. works a treat, 720p 22", but I use a 32" 1080i DVA tv from good guys with component cables. and if no one else is watching it I plug it into the 60" plasma and play 1080p via hdmi
