How much does it cost for Sony to repair a PS3?

My PS3 is not broken, this is just out of sheer curiosity.

How much does it cost for Sony to repair a 40gb PS3 console? Does it depend on how much damage was done. Lets just say it got a corrupt hard drive from the power going out while a new firmware was installing, how much would it cost to repair that?

Thanks!
They said a flat fee of $315 to me. I asked two different people too.

Edit: lol, speak of the devil.
So basically it costs $315 for any type of repair?

According to Sony Support, yea. A flat fee.
Seems like a rip off to me ...
yeh I got a bill of 315 for my broken console, all though Harvey Norman’s extended warranty paid that for me luckily
Hey longarms, how much extra did you pay Harvey Norman for the extended warranty?

I paid $99 for it, looks like it paid for it self

Plus I bought my PS3 on 18 months free so an extra $99 didn’t really make my repayments all that much bigger so I thought why not.

Oooo ... nice. Very nice indeed
Good to know considering I have a JPN PS3, will Sony Australia handle out of warranty repairs on a JPN Console? If not, is there any other places in Australia/Melbourne that would be able to repair any problems? (I'm not having any problems, just trying to know the info before any arise )

Sony Australia will not touch a non-Australian PS3 console.
Will have to find a 3rd party fixer.

And like you, I'm trying to find a PS3 fixer in Brisbane. Just in case ...

if the HDD got corrupted, wouldn't it be cheaper to just go buy a 250GB 2.5" HDD and stick in it for $99 or whatever they go for now...?
Half way down...

Well for HDD Issues, yes, as long as you're willing to lose all the data on it... we're talking in case of laser issues, etc...

Sure thing mate. So far, I only know of Beetronix in NSW, which S0NY just posted ...
thanks
I wonder if we should fix it ourselves ...

NO!

I say, no.

Highly DO NOT recommend fixing your own console.
Ahhh yes that is a good idea, just buying a new hard drive. So that is one way to fix your PS3 if the power goes out while installing new firmware, just buy a new hard drive.

$315 is a rip off though, its almost worth buying a new console for that price. I probably should of just bought an in store warranty, but after my experience with EB Games and my old Xbox 360, I would never want to touch an in store warranty ever again.

No way! System software is in the flash, I think...NOT THE HDD.
Ahhh yea I think you are right Sony, damn.

Is there anyway to purchase an extended warranty or something? I am certainly not going to pay $315 to repair a broken console, if mine does break down at some point.
Man, it's like as though no one in Brisbane fixes Playstation 3s ...
Either that, or they don't maintain decent web sites lol.

Seems like I need to visit Beetronix in NSW to get my PS3 fixed?
Sorry I don't know man, but $315 to repair a $600 console is just disgraceful. Sony should instill enough confidence in their own consoles reliability to make the repairs cheaper even if they lose some profit.

$315 is just outrageous. I know I would not be paying that, you might as well buy a $500 one off Ebay for that price. I think if my PS3 does break, I will just sell it as broken on Ebay for $300 or so and then sell all my games separately which should give me enough for a new one.

I am still shocked Sony repairs cost so much, its really disappointing actually.
