your Samsung is 32inches right? The plasma is 42, so that 10 inches of extra power.

Your computer and your PS3 uses around 500 as well, so I don't think it's a major catalyst for your energy bill.
what happened to my last post? It was a thesis!
Kim???is that you outside my window ?? AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH lol.
No, I'm right behind you, can you see me yet?
AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH,sh*t i just walked past the mirror lol.
there is a graph or something out there comparing the power usages between both. the difference is pretty large from what i remember too.

most people would suggest LCD's too. but its up to you in the end dude
Don't worry, I'll stay under your bed while you sleep.

Sh*t Kim,i was about to hide under my bed lol,you reading my mind??

BB I'm off to bed...YOUR BED
Err..me too, goodnight...oh i know, if i cover myself with a blanket you can't see me,yes i win ha ha.
Lol Entice and Smajs Cya guys, have yourselves a good one
Entice, so the Plasmas still are noisy with lower light levels? I looked at a plasma a few years back and it had test patterns on it (next to an LCD) and when it was showing a shading bands of primary colours I was apalled at how much noise showed up on a solid colour when the light intensity was less than about 50%. The tech there said it is as plasma actually turns pixels on and off after a certain level to simulate the lower light.

I thought they may have fixed that. That in itself is in my books a fatal flaw.

I still have a rear pro CRT Sony hd set, and the picture on it is beautiful, but takes a lot of work keeping it converged.

I'd like to move to a flat panel eventually, and thought that LCDs were "getting there". But they still have bad black levels and motion blurring? Even the top sony and samsung units. Sigh
i play on 42" LCD... looks great
LCD for me
Definitely LCD mate. Too many reasons to state that have already been mentioned.
LCD last longer than Plasma and they both look pretty much the same
The Panasonic has a half life of 100000hours or 8 hours a day for 30 years. I love my Sami and would recommend it to anyone, but in a dark room I really notice the 'lack of black', and blurring is more than I would like. Ive read heaps of reviews on this model (42pz700a) and it's all been good!

Correct, though there is an advantage of the plasma TV being able to turn its pixel off - this is where you can get superior contrast and black levels compared to LCDs. LCDs use a backlight, which cannot turn itself off and hence light can be passed through the little gaps between the pixels, hence the very low contrast ratio.

When you look at LCDs and how they are advertised, 18 000:1 contrast ratio may make you go "Wow! The plasma has a lower contrast ratio than the LCD!"

WRONG
LCD manufacturers advertise their "dynamic" contrast ratio, which is how dark the TV can get by sacrificing all the details of the screen. In reality, the contrast ratio measurement that matters most is the "static" contrast ratio, in this case...the highest ever for a CCFL LCD TV is around 2000:1

Now let's compare that to plasmas....the Panasonic has a 5000:1 STATIC contrast ratio, does that make any sense now? You can even go further and buy the Pioneer Kuro, which has a freakin' 16 000:1 STATIC contrast ratio....

There is no set ratio or patterns when it comes to the dynamic and static contrast ratio...you could have an LCD TV that has 30 000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, but has only 1200:1 static contrast ratio.

So I hope I've cleared up all the misconceptions about contrast ratios.

Michael, the gradation steps of plasmas are FAR HIGHER than LCDs, so you will see more depth and "life like" images. At the shops, you will find that they will tune up the TVs they want to sell and make the TVs they don't want to sell look ugly. You will often find that LCDs will look brighter than plasmas..no way! LCDs come out of the box with all settings maxed out, plus the max 16.7 million colours make flourescent images that look super bright even brighter and hence turn your LCD into an artificial torch - plasmas look dimmer because you will find more colours reproduced and hence a "dull" white, instead of the crazy ugly headache causing white.
Though if you bring both TVs home, you will find that plasmas can display better whites. Why? Because your house does not have the same lighting as the shops.

---
If you are a movie/home cinema mogul then get plasmas, they will offer more for your bucks - David, the reviews turn out to be good as well, the Panasonic is a great choice for a plasma.

I would suggest anyone who is aiming for an LCD TV to HOLD OFF right now, because new sets with LED backlighting instead of the usual CCFL is coming very soon, possibly within 8 months - LED backlights can offer a HUGE contrast ratio increase for LCDs, and also better management for motion response.

Okay that's enough for me..since triple posting is going to increase the rate of the ice shelves melting right? Oh no! Global warming! We're going to drown with our LCDs and PDPs! Oh noezzz!!!

PS. This is coming from a guy who purchased 2 1080p LCDs and is trying to sell one in order to buy a plasma.
