Was just wondering what(if any) differences there ae between the 80gig Ps3 & the new Ps3 Slim.
I am just trying to work out which model to get.
Can you upgrade the HDD in the slim? Card readers SD etc??
Any help on this subject would be much appreciated

i would probably go for the slim mate, its cheap and with 120GB hdd you cant go wrong!

They've removed the venting on the sides, so I can imagine the console will get reasonable warm.

well i think it will just be the game standard and bundle slim ps3 they've done it for metal gear solid 4 (which i have) , killzone 2 and i think others ... its most likely they will do it for uncharted 2.....only reason is that it maybe cheap with the slim i reckon around march i could see the slim $470-$480 with GOW 3 bundled....or $520 at least....just need a second ps3 cause im sick of sharing once the holidays start ...

Neither did I. I've taken out the disc. I'll put it back in when I feel like playing it again.

But the reason why I never took it out was, I feared I would damage the ejecting mechanism ... since I'll be ejecting and inserting more often now?

That's exactly why I left the disc in too, to save the eject mechanism. actually quite worrying, a while back I'd have my console on for hours, up to 14 hours a day playing Music of the HDD not knowing the disc was being read the whole time. over time that can't be good.

I'll be taking It out, I guess If you need the console on during down loads etc.....yeah take the disc out. If not, shut the whole thing down all together.

Holy crap... Sometimes I leave mine on for 6 hours at a time, just idling there. Have been doing this for almost 2 years now... Eeek!!

Hold on. I thought it only reads the disc if you have the disc highlighted, and it needs to load the hi-def picture in the background. Or if you're playing the game (obviously).

Hmm, I'm not sure mate, good point though, I re-read Vyma100 comment, from what he's saying the laser constantly reads It. You have me thinking now.

Yeah, I thought that as well. Although there is no proof/confirmation that it does or does not...

I've had my disc left in there when I'm just watching movies and stuff all these years, haven't had any probs.

I don't think I'll start worrying about it now.

Well im new to the playstaion concept but im already more than pleased with the price and the fact that the new ps3 is 120 gb! Its a shame it cant play ps2 game discs...

When i buy my ps3 ill get it september then will have to wait till october for my cod game to come as i wont wanna waste cash on other games before hand ..

EDIT: oh yeah wlel the overheating cant be as bad as the 360's! WOW they have a bad rep for over heating

Still confused which one to get really.
Love the look of the phat. But if they r going to be the same price i might as well get the slim.

i think its a load of bs. like, it should only have to read it once to know its in there, and it doesnt need to read it again until its ejected and something else is put in. if it does constantly read, then holy **** thats an EPIC fail. no reason for it.

i was in harvey norman early and was talking to the sales bloke, he was saying the phats arent going to be sold in australia after the slim release, they still wanted 670 bucks for the phat model

Umm, the Playstation 3 Slimline Cell is 45nm, whilst the original Playstation 3 Cell is 60nm. By the reduced cell, it will use less power from 280 to 250 watts and will have a less chance of over-heating. If so, this causes less use of the Playstation Fan
