I always wonder, when one of these articles arises, how does this writer get a gig in the technology/pro-gaming section of a publication? I understand that critiquing what is current is vital, but really? This is a bashing. Absurd remarks and sensationalist slanted bias.

Well, it's the responsibility of the write to report on social issues and things that might concern the greater community.

The problem is the gross hypocrisy that plagues the entire industry, namely the media. At Freeplay 11 there was a discussion panel that essentially turned into a an all-in brawl about sexism and feminism, and how about there isn't "enough" females writing about games (whatever that means). Anyone that said, "Women just don't like writing about videogames in the same way men don't like writing about fashion" was branded evil and sexist.

But yet, those very people will probably praise Saints Row and everything in it.

This doesn't affect me and I don't care that this is in the game -- it makes me want to play it more -- but there isn't any actual commentary on stuff like this when it comes from the artists themselves (developers). But it's OK for the artists to brand other people sexist...

I am sure we can all see how hitting prostitutes with dildos is not an especially nice and mature thing to do, but yeah, it's for fun. But the double standards are awful, because so many people cry wolf about comments/actions/anything that contributes to the objectification of women, but any of these things come from the devs (as they would classify as "artists"), nothing is said.

So what you are saying Tano is that you have been branded sexist at times by some of these people.....yeah?

Also what happens in a video game is less real than peoples opinions and attitudes in real life. I am not going to criticise a dev forthis because we KNOW it wont turn us into prostitute bashers or violent people.

Call a prostitute worthless or demean her in any way in real life and you are going to hear from people who have integrity. Same goes for having opinions that are sexist. That is real. A videogame is not.

Not hard to understand really.
