Shadows of The Damned - Suda51 Goes Mainstream?

So I had the pleasure of playing Shadows of the Damned last night for about 20 minutes (had to give it back to @Beta so he could review it -_-) and enjoyed it a lot.....BUT....

Suda51's previous titles are batshit crazy - No More Heroes 1 & 2 were all over the shop, and I still don't understand what the hell is going on in Killer7.

He has made a name for himself by creating totally crazy, out there titles and while Shadows of The Damned is pretty out there, it almost feels as if Suda51 has gone a little mainstream.

Does anyone agree with me?

I've had a quick play and it's a definite change from his other works. I'm enjoying it.

I don't think he is going mainstream. There's still the Japanese-like design, somewhat incoherent narrative. Boss battles are friggin' epic.

I think it's him just trying something new, offering something that more gamers can enjoy. NMH and Killer7 are not very accessible title, or at least not very appealing to mainstream audiences.

So yeah maybe he has gone mainstream lol

I can see your point - SOTD is far more accessible than NMH and I'm pretty sure you need to be clinically insane to enjoy Killer7.

Seeing that big EA sticker slapped on the cover has me wondering what kind of influence they had with this game -_-

Get into No More Heroes 2 King if you have a Wii. No More Heroes was just re-released on the PS3 and it's certainly awesome but not as good as 2 imo.

Suda51 has made some of the most artistically stunning, and absolutely splendid titles in gaming history. His level of creativity is beyond anyone else in the industry and that is something that should be admired.

I hope he isn't falling into the mainstream crowd because I'd love to party this guy. Did you play Killer 7? It was obvious he was banging at least 10gram rocks as that game was mental.

I don't know where this guy came from, and while this whole WINNING thing is getting old he is totally right.

Suda51 has always been a creative powerhouse - no one even comes close to what he has created in the past. It would be sad to see him fall away into mediocrity.

Hopefully they will, but I hardly know anyone who got this on the PS3. If it didn't sell maybe they won't bother. That will be a shame, because NMH 2 was one of those rare sequels that was so much better than the original. Just far more streamlined.

Where do you think Suda51 will go from here? I'd like to see some kind of crazy crime epic. SOTD reminded me of a Robert Rodriguez film that meets The Darkness. I'd like to see something in the same vein but perhaps less to do with demons next time :D

Agreed buy still comparable. Like BF3 and MW3.

Im not knocking either, they are both awesome and the more recognition the better.

Hipsters are the lowest scum of the Earth and the mere fact you would even tease the idea of Suda51 fans to be the scum of the earth is an outrage.

I think it's good that no one has heard of him - that means his ideas aren't compromised by sales and profit margins and he just makes the gamez he wants. That is a true sign of WINNING!
