hey guys.. i download alot of movies with sub-titles.. i know i can play the movies on my pc with the sub/srt files in the same folder as the movie and the sub/srt will automatically came up ( using players like VLC and GOM)..can this be done on the ps3 WITHOUT converting the files or streaming them from the pc to the ps3.. i just want to download the movie and sub, then transfer them to my hard-drive then take it to my ps3 then play them directly from the HD with th e sub showing..
I'm not 100% sure, but my first instinct is to say no it doesn't, as they don't even support some really basic video files that are more common than .srt/.sub files. I guess you could just try and see what happens?

Update: Just looked it up. You can play them, but they have to be DivX and be contained within the file. You can do it manually though if you're interested.

If you can get it too work try using nero media home to stream the vid to the ps3 if u can network ur comp and ps3 then it should if it works like that on ur computer.
For what you asked, the PS3 can't do it.

But if you download a program called AVIAddXSubs, which will add a subtitle track to your avi file, and makes it a divx file (which supports subtitle tracks). It doesn't convert the video, so the whole process only takes a few minutes.

You'll also have to manually select the subtitle track when you play it on the PS3. At least, that's what I've had to do. There might be a way to make it automatically appear, but I haven't come across it yet.
the easiest way i've found to get subtitles to work is to use the program ps3 media server (PMS) and stream it from your computer. Works much like tversity except that you dont have to manually create a divx file the the srt subs encoded in. PS3 media server does it on the fly, and having tried it yesterday, it works well.. doesn't stutter or anything while watching the movie.
