Data Transfer Utility

So I am having an issue with using the data transfer utility..

I am transferring around 190GB of just game saves, install data and downloaded games from a ps3 phat to a ps3 slim.

It says it will take around 3 hours 30 mins to complete.. then close to the end I get error message 80010029 come up and have to format the slim and try again.

I looked around online and can't find much info, Sony's guide doesn't help much either. I tried removing some of the data they suggested may not work post-transfer, such as LittleBigPlanet..

Any ideas?
No speculation please..
This happened to me but I couldn't be bothered fixing it and the only things that didn't copy were my game installs and downloaded games so I just re-downloaded them.

Have you tried disconnecting the internet?

Are you able to give me a quick list of the games you had stuff installed for on your system?

By the way.. I changed my mind, speculation encouraged

Thanks for the input anyhow
I had this problem a while ago. Im on my phone and I cant copy and paste links, but search the forums for thread called:

'new firmware problem - data transfer'

I started it, but the second page has your answer. Something about disconnecting your internet before transferring...

EDIT: sorry, morgan already said it. Mmaybe read the thread anyways

Cheers thank you for that will try and report back

Its on 73% and going quite smoothly now however it is no longer counting down the minutes accurately..

IMPORTANT EDIT: I incorrectly typed the original error code which was actually 80010029 on the slim and 80024611 on the phat, and am now looking further into this..
I'm doing the data transfer and have been for 9 hours since I've been at work, it's been saying 77% complete and 2 hours 24 to go for the last hour, not sure what to do both hard drive lights are still flashing...

If I stop it now will my new PS3 still have the 77% it's copied I'm really only doing it to get the game saves over...

Can't believe my fixed YLOD has stayed on for 9 hours more to the point longest I've got out of it since it was fixed was 2 hours!
I did what you're doing awhile ago. Transferring from a Phat 60gb to a 320gb Slim.

I made about 3 attempts before letting it go all the way. I wasn't sure what was going on after over half a day with 97% transferred, that last 3% lasted forever so I gave up after a long while. Although whatever was transferred can't be read on the data receiving PS3, it needs all 100% of data to be transferred, verified and installed completely.

I think it was my 3rd or 4th time the process completed after over 10hrs or something. I wouldn't stop the process even though it looks as if nothing is happening, there is...just very slowly. If you stop, you have to start again from 0% as it reformats the hdd everytime you do it. It'll get there eventually, just be a bit more patient. :) Good luck.

If prob arises. Turn it of do a back up of the old machine on to a portable hard drive and then restore it on the new machine. MOST things copy across like a transfer. But some game saves might not.
BUT deactivate the machine from PSN before it dies again, cos some games only allow one PS3 to be activated to it, Singstar for example.
Yeah well the guy on here who fixes YLOD backed up most of my game saves but some games like Assasin's Creed 2 can't be manually transferred the only way is by the data transfer.

Also I hope I'm right but I think the data transfer is the only way you can still earn trophies off game saves on another machine. If you transfer them by USB you have to start a new save to earn trophies which defeats the purpose.

That "back-up" option didn't work. Not when you're using the data for a different PS3. Back-up are mainly used for when you're reformatting the hdd in the original PS3 the data is from or if you're upgrading or downgrading the size of your hdd. Back won't recognize the new PS3 it'll be hosting as there'll be some compatibility issues with the coding it got from the original source. I tried doing that to speed up the process only to find that it doesn't work. It was a very quick process, but nothing important was transferred over and all I got were all the different accounts I made up but no personal data whatsover. Plus, if the PS3 dies again without getting the chance to deactivate the account, you can just as easily call Sony to deactivate your account from all PS3 and you'll just need to activate it again onto the new PS3.
It finally moved 78% now!
Dont get me startred on this -_-
Data tranfer completed after 40-48 hours! (Finished whilst I was asleep) So be prepared if you're going to attempt this!

Now I can finish Assasin's Creed 2 and a few other games I couldn't move the save data by USB!

Basically followed manuals.playstation.net/...
I am having a PS3 Restore. it's stuck at 97% and has been for almost a day. I am restoring 528 Gb. It originally said 20 hours starting out. Then it got stuck at 85% for a long time.
I started it again and let it go for a while and it passed the 85% mark. Now it's at 97% and has been saying 1 hour and 4 minutes for about 20 hours. There is activity on the PS3 HD light and the External will blink occasionally for a bit.

It's going on past 48 hours and didn't know if I should wait it out or give up on it.

Just let it finish it should eventually 528gb is a fair size transfer, if you turn it off whilst the HDD lights flashing you run the risk of corrupting some of your data.

Welcome to MMGN by the way.
An hour after I posted it moved to 98%. it's 25 Hr's later and waiting for it to get to 99%.

BTW I already stopped the process once cus it was stuck at 85% for 12 hrs. I went ahead and did a format and installed multiman and played a couple games to make sure everything was still working on the ps3. I would consider myself a very knowledgable on ps3's, not quite a developer but definitly not a novice. I just took the entire thing apart and reflowed my system to fix the RLOD so it's been day's and now I just want to play!!
Thank you very much for the welcome.
Just out of curiosity, how could I corrupt the Data coming off the External Drive? When every you start a new restore it prompts a format and if the restore does not get to 100% it will not boot to the XMB menu, it will just ask you to format it again when you boot into it.
Yeah my mistake I thought you were talking about using the system to system data transfer as that is what the thread was intended for lol.

I'm not sure if there is a backup/restore thread but at least it's getting there slowly for you.
No my fault, I saw a person in here with the same exact issue, so that's why I posted.
Yeah, slowly is an understatement. It's been about 30 hrs and still at 98% but at least there is still HDD activity on both drives.
It's killing me. I am 3 riddler trophies away from completing Batman Arkham City on 100% play through (minus the DLC's, btw if you know where to download robin and catwoman dlc I would be much obliged). It makes me sick to my stomach though, I lost about 2500 Trophies cus of the restore file system incident. I know I am on a Custom Firmware and can't connect to $ony, but at least I would have been able to back them up manually from my ftp and add them back when the restore was done. Then at least would have had them if I wanted to load my PS3 on a friends system and sync up with the server.
The only thing that bothers me is the copy protected games like Capcom. they do not back up and you have to play through them again if you want any unlockables, but hey, thats what cheats are for I guess. Speaking of cheat's BahamutLord Released a 1 gig cheat disc with tons of games and 2 updates that you just put in the hd0/GAMES folder of your PS3 HD. It has some killer cheats if you wanna blast through a game with infinite ammo, maxed out xp, gold, or god mode. All you have to do is run the .pkg for the game you want and your golden. I can post the link or PM you if your interested.

Hey Seany,
I wanted to know what you meant about it corrupting data if I were to stop the restore procedure.
I ended up starting over 'cus it did not move from 98% for over a day and a half and the only HD light that was blinking was on the PS3. I ended up taking the HD out of the PS3, hooking it up to my PC and gave it a thorough formatting and re-partitioned it. I then tried to do the 'file system restore' (#3 in Safe Mode) and still got the same error. Before it initialized the procedure, it said that the drive was corrupt and needed to be formatted. I don't know if it's large drives that give this error or was but it was a freshly formatted/partitioned drive (750gb). I did some surface tests and other tests while I had it hooked up to my PC and it was in perfect working order. So I don't know what's up with that.
I got a little off topic. So I started the restore process again and it has been moving a lot faster than it did in previous attempts. It's about 20hrs in and up to 82%. The remaining time has been steadily decreasing at a good rate as opposed to last time when it fluctuated by hours.
So I am on my 3rd installment on trying to restore the 528 Gb from my External Drive.
I know this area is meant for the PS3 to PS3 Data Transfer Utility but I thought I might share a log of what I have gotten to so far. I am to 97% currently.

Restoring 500 Gb will seem to take 4 to 5 day's and here is what my log looks like so far:
