PS3 Console sitting on top of Speaker

I know this is a little bit of a no brainer and I wouldn't do this long term but I was wondering if I was risking my PS3 by having it sitting on top of my speaker.
I just got home with a new TV and it's bigger than the one I had and it's taken up all the room available on my current entertainment unit. Previously my last TV left enough room for my Wii and PS3 to sit on either side of the TV. Now I have the PS3 sitting on top of one of my main speakers which is about a meter high with a woofer right at the bottom and some small tweeters at the top. Since I'm stuck with short cables it's the only spot I have to place my PS3 so I can still use it. I plan to get a new entertainment cabinet but I want to watch some movies and play some games right now this is my only solution.
I'm just hoping it's current location is safe for the time being, should be ok for a week or so right?
Dont do it mate............. Not worth the risk due to the Magnetic Field.

just put the ps3 on the floor?
What TV? [MOG]

Think it might damage the hard drive even though it's only a tweeter that's in close proximity.

Dust.
I wouldn't........... But clearly its your call mate.
Whilst not immediately noticeable it may have delayed lasting effects.

Better than risking some possibly permanent damage though right? Even if it's only temporary. Perhaps put it on the floor but prop it up on something? I've never found a use for books before perhaps you can [MOG]
Ok having a closer look, my alternative is to have the PS3 on it's side in one the shelves the only down side to that is the lack of air flow. There will be space around the PS3 but there's only a couple of small holes in the back of the cabinet for direct hot air to exit the PS3.

Sounds like your buggered either way mate.............. I would just wait till tomorrow and invest in some longer cables.

On another note......... Would you mind fixing that new thread of mine as per the request of my last post.
I've found a better alternative, I shifted some other unused gear out of another shelf that's not blocked at the back so air will flow away from the PS3. The down side is I have to have the door of the cabinet open and I have the weakest WiFi signal but this is probably my best choice for the time being. Thanks for the warnings and from stopping me being slack :P

well in my new tv unit my ps3 is underneath my speakers but has a gap and the speakers are on the above glass shelf. Thats ok isnt it?
i actually had mine sitting on top of my sub woofer for some time and nothing happen to it, this was of course due to not having any room

A quick google search on the effects of magnets and their magnetic fields will provide you with enough knowledge to know its not a good idea to mix with any of your expensive electrical equipment.

If you think otherwise then that's your decision and your risk.........

Case in Point............... I can drive a car up the wrong side of the highway safely and not hit any other cars............. but its not really a good idea.
its on a speaker box right? if so then it will probably be ok, Aussie dog you can say what you want, its not an ideal place to put it but your more likely to damage the speaker than you are the PS3.
*Cuts evlspcmk's Brake-line and watches him drive up the wrong side of the highway*

Mate............... We both know your a fool (We have been through this many times before).

Why do you think their are sign's not to use Mobile Phones at Gas Stations.............. You'd be the type of guy that knows better and stands their filling his car up while talking on the phone................
Aussie Mythbusters proved that was a myth. and there is not a signall recorded incident involving a mobile phone blowing up a petrol station anywhere in the world.
www.abc.net.au/...

Leave EVL alone, the guy is a bloody electronic genius who I even send my stuff too. If anyone knows the effects of magnetic fields vs electronics he does.
well aussie that whole mobile phone at a gas station was a very good way to prove you know what your talking about hahahahaha.

look its not an ideal place to put the PS3 i agree there but the risk of permanently damaging anything is low. just put something thats usually attracted to a magnet on the box it wont stick to the box now will it. there is also a fair bit of shielding on the PS3 to help it stay protected from stuff on the magnetic spectrum.

if its a speaker of any worth id be more concerned for the speaker and not the ps3. there is a precise science for getting the air pressure right in speakers and if its a good speaker having the ps3 on top may disrupt this ever so slightly.

im not an idiot that you try and make me out to be, i work and specialise in this stuff.

Cheers for the support vyma ;)

As do I work in this field mate...............
But you are totally missing my point.......... Both you and Vyma can watch your MythBusters and spout their "tested" claims....... Though I bet in reality neither of you talks on the mobile while filling up the Gas Tank (Because MythBusters said it was ok).
And why is that...........Its because despite MythBusters calling it a Myth........ And despite the fact you may be able to do it 10,000 times and nothing would happen......... You are simply not willing to take the risk, because being a man of apparent education you understand the vast amount of variables in play at any given time and the random nature of electronic fields be they of a strong or weak nature.

Its the same principle with the Speaker and the PS3.............. Yeah he may be able to sit it their and nothing would happen but as I stated I gave "My Opinion" and that is I wouldn't do it, because I wouldn't take the risk.
guys im thinking about taking my ps3 and playing it right at the north pole, is this a bad idea?

Yes. The magnetic fields in the earth will cause your PS3 to implode, creating world destruction [MOG]
I have had trouble with my ps3 overheating recently, is it possible I have been putting my chick magnet too close to the system??? :D

Unless you play Metal Gear Solid. Then you can combat the world destruction!
Getting back to the PS3 on the speaker debate.......... [Shifty]

I would have thought the vibrations caused by the speaker would be more worrying than any magnetic interference that may or may not occur.........

i am aware and have read enough to know that this isn't a good mix, but when im outta options the next best thing is good enough for me.... my ps3 still going strong, well my ps3 isn't on the sub anymore
