PS3 Console sitting on top of Speaker

I know this is a little bit of a no brainer and I wouldn't do this long term but I was wondering if I was risking my PS3 by having it sitting on top of my speaker.
I just got home with a new TV and it's bigger than the one I had and it's taken up all the room available on my current entertainment unit. Previously my last TV left enough room for my Wii and PS3 to sit on either side of the TV. Now I have the PS3 sitting on top of one of my main speakers which is about a meter high with a woofer right at the bottom and some small tweeters at the top. Since I'm stuck with short cables it's the only spot I have to place my PS3 so I can still use it. I plan to get a new entertainment cabinet but I want to watch some movies and play some games right now this is my only solution.
I'm just hoping it's current location is safe for the time being, should be ok for a week or so right?

no i dont use a phone while im filling up petrol simply due to the fact that im filling up petrol its not really something i do while talking on the phone, kind of how i dont really talk on the phone while im taking a poo or having sex. not saying i cant do it it just its something i dont really do.. static electricity is more of a threat than threat than the electromagnetic spectrum that is already heavily persent at any service station wether it be FM radio TV, Infra red, UV from the sun im sure the waves from the mobile phone will not pose any threat for blowing it up....

i really have a hard time believing that you work at all or ever graduated from primary school.

PS I don't like the sound of the PS3 on the speaker, more due to the fact that the vibrations of the speaker would shake crap up in the system.
Also the stability of the speaker itself worries me, it only takes a knock and opps crash bang...oh man, FFAAAAAARRRRRKKKKK.. I would put it in the tv unit...I had one in mine for years and it lived... My slim has been in there for years now and it has not skipped a beat. I mean its only a temp solution yeah!!!

I've had mine on top of my sub, with an integrated amplifier for about the last 2 years. Playstation is now 4 years old. No problems yet, so I think you should be safe.
PS. In a previously life I was a Cinema tech, so I understand the implications and possible outcomes of doin so, but its the only place it fits and I just don't care that much....... :P

when did i say anything about myth busters?
I would happily talk on a phone while im filling up petrol but honestly its just something that ive never done its not that im scared i will cause any risk its just i cant recall ever doing it.

shit phones now days are pumping out more waves even when they are just sitting in your pocket since most people will have phones with bluetooth, WiFi and 3G and those warnings were around long before phones became more advanced with multiple transceivers on multiple frequencies.

I strongly believe in what im saying and i dont think im back peddling at all. I do believe they can interfere with equipment since ive seen them do it first hand, I just dont think its possible for a phone to ignite petrol and im pretty sure if you check the records its never happened at all. I think you will find they have those warnings there not to serve as a danger of a fire risk its probably that they dont want you to interfere with the electronics inside the bowser.

on that note when your taking off or landing on a plane do they ask you to turn the phone off because they are concerned that it will ignite the jet fuel? or is it so it dosnt interfere with the electronic equipment?

im not expecting you to get that one right

I don't talk with my phone at my ear at the petrol station, not because of the threat of explosion but because of other peoples fear of explosion caused by me talking. I'll happily txt, or transfer funds to pay for the fuel while I'm filling up, I just don't put it to my ear.

I think the main reason is when I first got my licence... shit that was 10years ago. Mobiles were just starting to become mainstream with the release of pre-paid mobiles. I pulled up to get fuel and the guy across from me was filling his car and talking on the phone, and the voice came over the loudspeaker at the servo abusing him.

Guyver, your main concern about placing the ps3 on a speaker (even though you have now moved it) is vibrations. affecting the lens and making the disc move around in the cradle possibly scratching it.

Clearly your blinded by your own wanky sense of self intelligence............. Besides the fact that you have mis-identified these as 10,000V lines.

Using a large scale EMF example like the above shows that nobody (Including yourself) knows the full scale effects of EMF.

So whether it be something as large as 132kV lines or something as small as a mobile phone at a service station (Or a PS3 on a speaker).......... Just because you cant see something doesn't mean its not happening.

If you took the bulbs to a 66kV line they would still be effected you just would not be able to see it with the naked eye..........

That's why in the beginning of this thread I gave ""MY OPINION"" that I wouldn't put the speaker and PS3 together............... They may be perfectly safe (Like the people in the vid) but I wouldnt take the risk..............

how did i miss identify them as 10,000V lines? the news report labelled them as just "high voltage" i did mean to add an extra zero to the figure but thats besides the point.

Im not debating wether EMF exists im saying there is no where near enough for a phone to ignite petrol or even those over head lines to ignite petrol......

Seeming how i live about 5 minutes away from those very same overhead lines you saw on the report. how about I go get some petrol and i will happily cover my hand in it and then hold it up to the lines. damn ill even make a video to shut you the hell up.
