FW3.60 resecures PS3?

According to PS3 hacker Youness Alaoui. PS3 firmware 3.60 has a completely revamped security architecture model that does not use the exploited and compromised loaders, and therefore unhackable.

"A dumbed down explanation of the PS3 security is such that PS3 loads metldr at some point which than launches all the OS and game loaders, which the hackers were able to bypass.

It was shown in fail0verfl0w presentations that metldr cannot be changed, so the PS3 would be vulnerable forever. It appears that Sony has found a way to bypass metldr, and if they properly signed their code this time, it should be secure once again.

FW3.60 is awesome first Cloud storage now this, who would've thought 360 would be the FW# that would re-secure PS3's tech kinda ironic ay? :P n4g.com/...

I think the title of the articles misleading apparently Sony's just reset the code that Geohot & numerous others are getting sued for releasing, all their work will be for nought when the new batch of consoles & every future game will be released with this FW [MOG]

I'm sure they could crack it again but is it really worth it? Sony & MS are probably working on their next consoles by the time they do get through noone will care ala discswapping with PS2.

Still haven't jailbroken any of my ps3's. Don't see the point. online gaming and full feature support is more what I'm after.

My iphones are jaibroken but they allow so much more to be done. The ps3, well you can play backed up games..... and it some instances any region blu rays etc.

In all honesty, If they released the new slim with a memory card reader & 4 usb ports I'd be absolutely wrapped. ps2 playback is not needed. Game backup is fantastic for extending laser life but, don't leave a disc in your console when your not using the disc and it should last 3-5years.

Any region dvd's would be great, but, with the advent of large dl limits these days, that's not a necessity either.

To me personally its a ridiculous idea to modify a console in such way that you wont be able to log online to play games just for the sake of "homebrew" which in reality is a coverup for the word piracy, just because the "scene" out there dont want to be labelled. If sony can, and they will, find a method to block hacks then I'm sure the majority of PS3 gamers will be more than happy

Most times I just set it and leave it selecting the auto turn off options.

Good to see the PS3 a little more secure and we didn't lose anything this time round..but like mentioned earlier give the hackers some time and they'll find a way around it.

It is true that many use jailbroken PS3s for 'piracy', but don't underestimate the potential of the homebrew scene. Already back in January, ThatOtherDev released this very basic foundation for an RPG that he'd created:

Yes.
If I buy a PC, I can run anything I like on it.
If I buy a PS3, I'm barely allowed to run anything on it.
And a PS3 is essentially just a simplified gaming PC with a sleek design.
Why the animosity anyway? Allowing me to play homebrew on my PS3 has absolutely no impact on you, so I don't understand why you'd be against it. Unlike Sony, we won't force updates upon you- If you don't want to jailbreak, you're more than welcome not to.

Hacking a console ruin's the gaming experience, I can remember every game on the SNES had a cheat page A4 in size, games these days dont have cheats or mods in them cause no one likes them,

When A console is hacked we have wankers on mp games ruining the experience for everone else who does not want to play it hacked!. If anywanty wants to hack/jailbreak there console go for it! we are not stopping you, But dont play your system online or muck it up for everone else! how old are you guys that ruin games and things for us, 12,13?
