PS3 Sound skipping issue

Hi,

PS3 been fine til now - was playing skate and notice the audio is now skipping very similar to a scratched audio cd, but of course the disc is brand new.

So then i played a demo of the PS3 Hard Drive, same problem.
I checked my HDMI is in correctly and all cords are atched proper.

I have also tried LINEAR PCM audio and BITSTREAM audio, both sound the same and both have the same effect of the skipping sound.

Any ideas or has anyone else experienced this problem worldwide.

AAAARRRGGGHHHH !!!!!
Never experienced it yet mate.

Are you using coax or optical outputs, or just composite (red and white) cords?

i actually found this started happening when i switched to using my hdmi cable as well....it was only fairly cheap which may have something to do with it....i've been meaning to just hook the red + white cables back up and use those for sound instead to see if it fixes it...
The ps3 is switched to hdmi in the xmb settings for sound right? I would have thought if it wasn't you'd get no picture either. If the picture IS coming through, you shouldnt be able to use optical or coax as you can only choose 1 as far as i know - ergo it might be the cable...
i think you can have it set to output video but not sound....which might be the go...
Oh dear... jesowrx that sounds very similar to a problem I had !!

Check this thread for details, hope its not !

Hang on - actually you are correct - that's what i do! LOL. Sorry. Mmm could be the cable, or your amp.

Wow, maaddog that sounds pretty chronic! have you got your new one yet - did Sony confirm it was faulty?
jesowrx. I would try another hdmi cable just incase as my hdmi cable is a cheapo $20 one and works fine
yeah mine is a cheapo HDMI too. So ill see what happens if i change it - my audio is coming out of red/whites as i use the Audioengine speakers - theyre really good for the price.

Will update.
Currently I use the Optical output on my PS3, seems to work quite well. What brand of HDMI cable are you guys using just in case others should avoid it...

Check the output of your HDMI esp when you are feeding a sound signal through the HDMI, which may not be the correct signal.

Try listening to music on CDs and see if the problem persists.
Price isn't the problem,i had sound skipping in heavenly sword,on $99 a metre cables ie 6 metres $600,& $5,000 surround set-up,i've noticed it more often now in other games, using HDMI,Dig Out etc except Component, any suggestions ?I think it's the speaker set-up,i'm goin back to just the TV speakers lol.
Maybe check your speaker wires are touching...
Hi, about an hour ago I just received this problem!

I'm using a HDMI cable connected from my PS3 to my LG HD TV, then an optical cable from my TV to my LG surround sound system.

I've been using this setup since April and no problems, I've tried using an AV cable and it's still doing the same thing. However, if I'm watching TV there's no skipping at all... Could my PS3 be at fault?
@FoxhoundZ

No its not a PS3 problem, but just in case check your ps3 sound settings. Either could be the optical cable or sound system.

sounds like your HDMI cable cant carry the bandwidth of audio plus video. are you running 1080p? try running 720p and see if its still occurring...

@jesowrx... can you describe your whole system please? like is your hdmi passing to an amp or tv carring video and audio like foxhoundz' setup?
im just running audio via hdmi on Samsung tv speakers.
Seems to do it worst when i playback low grade music videos ive downloaded.
In game audio is fine, (Playing everybodys golf) but the start up "playstaion" logo audio is skippy for sure as well as the music videos.

Any else getting this skipping.

send the junk back
Change video settings -> bd audio output format to bitstream direct. As well as bd audio hdmi to bitstream.

My assumption is that the LCM conversion is not working properly. I tried this with an hdmi and optical cable and both worked.
A bump for the ages.
Bravo good sir.
