The only reason he'd leave was to be financially secure for his young family. And that could potentially be a big factor... especially when he'd be getting a lot more than he gets at the Hawks, considering Hodge, Franklin and Rioli are all bigger names.

Hawthorn are going to struggle to keep a lot of stars. Collingwood too. Geelong has benefited from being a small market in a very tight-knit community, and this creates a good culture. Players take paycuts. Gary is an exception because he'd already achieved so much at the club.

I don't think losing stars matters much to Collingwood as them seem to have an amazingly deep list. Hawthorn though have struggled when riddled with injuries, so it'll hurt them if they lose Mitchell.
