Help in deciding on new mobile phone

3503 Views 99 Posts Social
Hey everyone.

My mobile contract is just about up and I'm trying to decide on which phone i should get next

It's come down to the following

Nokia N900 (released in Australia April 2010)

HTC HD2 (which I think is exclusive to Telstra so I'd have to change carriers from Optus to get it for free)

or the new iPhone 3GS (i don't particularly want to be like the rest of the sheep but if it's the best out of the 3 then i'll bite the bullet and get it)

Given the choice what would you get, any pro's and con's you have on them would be greatly appreciated

Thanks again

I suggest u get the Sony Aino... "psssst,.. it has Remote Play.. " and besides making calls and text messaging, what else do u really need from a mobile (((PHONE.))).?
iPhone, only phone you'll ever need....
n900 if youre a geek mate
e: i said that without even checking your first post. good to see youve got it listed. if you love using terminal, ssh, and so on, its the phone for yo. multitasking on this phone is really whats it cracked up to be. if you want things to always do for a few minutes, go an iphone. if you want fully featured programs id suggest you look into the n900..plus, free gps features are suppsedly coming.
Optus had the Sony Aino and were giving away a slim PS3 with it too. Which would come i handy as my PS3's blu ray drive doesn't want to read discs anymore and I don't have the cash to fix it.

Does anyone know about the other 2 phones, I'm aware 8/10 people have an iPhone, and you're probably basing your decision in the fact that you may own one, but if anyone who knows much about phones could check out www.gsmarena.com and tell me out of the 3 phones specs which would be the better one to get
At the moment the software that nokia is using for their touch phones are garbage. Mum Has an N97 here and would not reccomend it to anyyone. If you love nokia then take the risk.

I own an iPhone 3GS and will never look back They are awesome phones, and do everything you want
get an android phone instead .....but if it has to be out of those 3 i would recommend the iphone
Iphone.
/thread.
a mate from work just renewed his contract with vodafone and got the iPhone 3GS, he showed me how fast is was to boot up the internet on it and it was uber fast, facebook and his email opened straight away.

Although I'm woth optus i don't know if it'd be just as fast cos of the phone or if voda is just better coverage, in some areas in Tweed where I work i get 0-1 bar of signal on my Nokia N95 8GB.

He wanted to get the N900 but none of the phone carriers knew anything about it, and kept thinking he was talking about the N97. But apart from that he's happy with the iPhone 3GS but told me if he had the chance he'd get the N900, so I'm really torn.

I am a bit of a Nokia fanboy, I've never owned another brand of mobile in the 11 years I've had a phone. They're just so easy to use and are near unbreakable.

Thakns for your opinions guys it's really helping my decision!

sony aino is **** appart from the remote play
its only touch in the menu which sucks
i recomend waiting for the google phone nexus one
or to get the N900 while u can
as others have said id stay away from the aino unless its very cheap...the free ps3 is a great sweetener but unless its really cheap i would steer clear. i love my n900. get lots of general use out of it. as a guide i think i could use about 6 internet windows, listen to music for 4-6 hours, be writing sms/calling friends over the period of a day and charge it at night without it being flat. of course my general daily usage is nowhere near this..i might listen to an hour of music (the built-in fm transmitter is so good for car rides), write 15-20 sms and speak on the phone for 10 minutes, with a bit of light browsing before bed included, and have the phone without charging for 3-4 days. so for me, battery life has been good
Anyone who knows anything about the current status of mobile phones will know that Android > all.

At the moment, Nexus One is the god of phones, but Google are already hard at work on their next mobile device.
HTC are also in the high end of the market, too.
Just give in and join the IPhone gen

Still don't understand what you see in the HD2...

if youre a nokia fanboy then the N900 is the best bet.

As skua said, yes, the N97 is garbage (I have one), but Nokia are trying to fix the bugs (e.g.: no lag, no bugs, faster net etc.) with the N900 and even the geekiest of geeks will tell you its the iPhones superior.

I usually get every new nokia that comes out, but I wont be getting the n900 as its not necessary (im still happy with my N97); but should an opportunity arise like your case, definately get one.

The only thing the iPhone has over N900 is the rediculous number of useless apps that get boring after a week.
Yes that's true but then you just get to dl some more crap ones to get rid of after a week Good thing is they just keep on coming
Anyone got an opinion whether i should stay with Optus or cross over to Telstra?

Been with Optus since 2002 when I crossed over from Telstra, but I saw at JB Hi Fi that if you sign up to a Telstra mobile plan with them you get a free $200 JB gift card.

If anyone here is with Telstra what caps/plans are you on?

At the moment i'm on a plan with Optus which is something like $120 a month and i get like $1000 wirth of calls/sms, but I've also got hit with a $30 a month handset repayment cos the phone was brand new when i signed up, and no doubt i'd get hit with the same thing if i get the N900 cos it'll be brand new to Australia

wow that sounds like you have a really bad plan? and you don't even seem to use you're phone much....just swap carriers i think....

I'm on optus with the iphone 3gs deal and am paying about $65 a month including phone and around $400 credit, 500mb's of data and free sms to optus mobile....if you could change to vodaphone, i suggest you do that, as paying $150 a month is a little bit too much i think....
