Slow torrent downloads?

I usually have an internet speed of 4 mb per second.

However when downloading torrents, most of them are painfully slow. Even if they have plenty of seeders, sometimes I will get like 20 bytes per second and the estimated time will be like 2 years.

Do I have to open some ports on my router or is something else wrong?
