AnDrE_pSp said: How does the Government pay for Uni tuition?
Ben said: It's cheaper to pay your uni fees up front though. You used to get 20% off, but it's now 10% if you pay at least $500 upfront per semester. Also it's only science that's subsidised, or if there are others it's definitely not everything. You end up paying more again with HECS because of the interest.
Subsidy per year: Law, accounting, administration, economics, commerce $1,793 Humanities $4,979 Mathematics#, statistics#, behavioural science, social studies, computing, built environment, other health $8,808 Education* $9,164 Clinical psychology, allied health, foreign languages, visual and performing arts $10,832 Nursing* $12,093 Engineering, science#, surveying $15,398 Medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, agriculture $19,542

Ben said: I wouldn't really call this us being subsidised, especially when subjects are $650-1200. This is what I pay, and no mention of the government paying more not included in that.
IAMColonel said: If it gets you a job, why even worry about your HECS?

Nearly all are $650, but there's no reason these should be expensive. Super cheap to run IMO. Doing an industry placement for 12 days costs us $1200. Essentially $1200 to do free work for 2 and a bit weeks and write a report on it. I know it's for the insurance, but still. I don't know anyone outside of science/some engineering that has been informed they are being subsidised.

You'll have work straight out of uni and have it sorted soon enough.

iamtom said: That's actually stupid, lol, most uni's have IBL. Engineering requires 12 weeks work experience to become qualified and I know 90% of that is paid (if you're desperate then you go unpaid).
iamtom said: Local students can not get a full-fee place for Undergraduate studies at university. They're all international full-fee paying places now.
Ben said: RE: IBL I don't think so. It's unpaid work that counts as a subject.
