Gaming Headsets

Demoted 5017 Views 17 Posts Locked Xbox Hardware
I'm looking into buying a new headset for gaming and maybe listening to some music.

Now i've been reading up on some headsets from Astros, Turtle Beaches to Tritton and they all have their highes but also their lows from interference on wireless ones to lack of bass or just a poor build quality. Im truly lost on what to get and just don't want to spend out on junk.

Another question i wanted to ask is how do standard headphones compare? like a decent pair of Dr Dre Beats for example? I get gaming headsets are more likely specialising on what they are for but there doesn't seem to be any high end models like you can get with standard headphones.

Plus 7.1 through a headset? does that even work?
I've only ever used the G35 logitech Headset on a PC, but found it to be fantastic. Audio was clear, bass was excellent and a bit of tweaking helped to produce excellent sounds for the few PC games I tried with it.

While not groundbreakingly different in some of the things I tried with, it definitely adds to the atmosphere in games that support it.

I can't vouch for the console headsets, but I am also looking to buy one of the Turtle Beach X41 headsets in the coming weeks. I want something I can use on both PC and Xbox, and also something with a digital input - and this seems to fit the bill.

Someone must be able to give me a few tips on my above post? im desperate! help me out guys! :)

theres so many threads on here about headsets.... just do a search
Astro, Turtlebeach, Tritton etc all are good headset. The question you have to ask is what headset suits you better within your gaming setup.

To answer your question about the 7.1 headset, its all virtual surround sound. I believe Trittons are the only headset which offer true surround sound with 5-7 speakers built into one headset. Some people like that but personally for me its too close to have different speakers into one cup if you know what I mean.

Personally I bought the PX5s and work really well into my gaming setup. If you have a iphone or something with stereo bluetooth you can actually onect your music to the headphones via bluetooth and play the game at the same time.

Also Standard headphones are preety good for gaming as long as you have a decent pair. I would go with anything 40mm to 50mm Razor has some good headsets.

Not so much on standard headset use though which @RSOP has kindly responded too

@RSOP

Do you know anything about the Beats range by Dr Dre? their pricey i know that :P just are they worth it?
They are pricey and not really worth it in my opinion.

You can get a nice pair of Shures or Sennheizers for a similar price that sound better, even cheaper Shures or Sennheizers sound better usually. You're paying for the "status" with the beats brand. Not saying they are bad, they are pretty decent and have good bass response but for the money I can't justify them.

Having said that the only way to be sure is to listen to some sets yourself. Each person hears things differently so just spend some time in a good audio store and listen to three or four kinds before you decide what you want. Also take comfort into consideration.

From my understanding there well over priced to a pair of headphones. Personally If I was going to spend that much on headphones I would go AKG. There expensive but they are a quality well known brand for sound. DR beats is no differ than buying celebrity perfume than a well known perfume brand.

Like I said before though its your preference. We can all tell you these are the best headphones but when you put them on they may be great they may sound great but it prob does tick all your boxes in what you want in a headphone.

Some things to consider.
Do you want wireless?
Do you want it to be portable?
Do you want it to be stylish?
Do you want it to have volume control etc
Budget?

If you want some well thought out reviews on headphones check out my mate. He does headphone reviews and gadgets etc. ALso works for Engaget :P

Also I have a review on my channel about the PX5's if your curious about them also.

Yep, the resident pom. I still think MMGN should expand to the UK though. MMGN.co.uk [Derp]
There isn't a site like it here.

On the TB PX5's my main concern with them is interference, does anyone else here own them and have such problems??

Well the site is very Australian orientated with the news, articles and competitions which it should be being an Australian site an all hence why i said with the .co.uk thing even uk.mmgn.com. I love the name, the site everything and would love a british site ( if it ever happens let me know cause id be 100% behind it)
ive got a set of turtle beach px5 and they are great. the 7.1 is really good the mic is great quality. and their wireless.
the battery life is ok but you do go through a fair few AA's.
