Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Info
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a
first-person shooter developed by
Infinity Ward and
Sledgehammer Games, with
Raven Software having assisted in development. It is the third installment in the
Modern Warfare series, a sequel to 2009's
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the eighth game in the
Call of Duty series.
The game launched on November 8, 2011 in Europe and North America on
Microsoft Windows,
Xbox 360,
PlayStation 3, and
Wii. Developer
N-Space is working on a version for the
Nintendo DS. In Japan,
Square Enix will handle the loca distribution and translation, as they did for
Call of Duty: Black Ops.
The game sold 6.5 million copies in the US and UK within the first 24 hours, and grossed over $400 million, making it the biggest entertainment launch of all time.
Campaign
Modern Warfare 3's campaign switches between various different characters as the story progresses. The campaign missions are broken up into listed objectives, which direct the player in a specific direction in search of a set goal.
Multiplayer
As with earlier Call of Duty games the focus in Modern Warfare 3 is the multiplayer component. One major change has been to the
Killstreak reward system, now knows as the
Strike chain system, which rewards for points earned (Pointstreak) instead of kills. By completing an objective in a mode like
Search and Destroy or
Capture the Flag, the player will earn a point, which will go toward their Killstreak.
Strike chain's are broken up into three categories called "strike packages". The
Assault strike package is not unlike the Killstreak system in
Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. The
Support strike package allows players to use team-based rewards such as
UAVs or
SAM Turrets. With this package, it does not reset once the player dies, and instead accumulate over the course of a match. The
Specialist strike package allows players to pick and choose their rewards, which are unlocked with every second consecutive kill. Once they reach their eight kill, every reward is unlocked, but are all reset once the player dies.
The unlock system from Black Ops does not return in Modern Warfare 3. Players instead level-up
primary weapons and unlock a number of
Proficiency Perks such as
Attachments. Only one proficiency perk per primary weapon is allowed.
The new
Prestige shop is unlocked whenever a player reaches
Prestige level. This shop allows the player to purchase game upgrades with points earned while in Prestige, such as
double XP and an extra
weapons class.
