250GB PS3 Slim Announced for Australia

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has today announced a range of 250GB PS3 Slim bundles.

The bundle will include the new slim PS3, complete with a 250GB HDD, and your choice of one of the following games (once they are released): SingStar Motown, award-winning action adventure, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time and EyePet.

"The 250GB PS3, with its larger storage capacity, will allow owners to take full advantage of the incredible software line-up and the many multimedia functions available on PS3, whether that is storing and viewing your family photographs, listening to your entire music collection in crisp quality, or watching your favourite home videos," says Sony.

The 250GB PS3 will have a recommended retail price of AUD $599.95 and be available from October 15, 2009. The 120GB PS3 Slim (without a game) retails for $499.

It's still a good price point at this stage...250gb & a new title...for an extra $100 over the current model.

Good savings for someone who doesn't have a PS3 yet.

Sony keep changing the PS3's around. The slim just came out this month! I dont see the point in phasing this one out, just keeping it at the lower end market would be good

I was planning to get Uncharted 2 anyway, and the larger hard drive will be an extra bonus.

I reckon it's not bad, you're paying an extra $100 for:
free game (quality game, not a soon-to-be-platinumed like what EB's currently doing) ...
... and "free upgraded hard drive".

Uncharted 2 is like, what ... $79 or 89 at best?

Yeah if they're portable USB hard drives, of course they are. Unless you were talking about putting it in the PS3? Then Idk. I use a 1TB portable HD, works a treat, way better than paying an extra $150 for an internal HD I wouldn't even use.

yeah but you get a game with the 120g now, for 499.

also dont forget its $100 for a hdd UPGRADE ONLY, cos of course you dont get to keep the 120g drive unless you upgrade yourself

so for roughly the same money you can have a 500g slim, a game, plus a spare 120g drive, which you can turn into an external or whatever...

Personally its good value, most ps3 owners will never want to, know how, or risk updating the hdd, let alone know where to source a cheap one that "might" work. Though a few ppl here like myself can do these upgrades. Bottom line Sony is not pitching this to ppl like ourselves. And yes a hdd is less that $100, but you need to understanding the drive itself is under warranty, someone had to install it/load it with software, and guarantee compatibility with the unit itself so really its good value and we should support the ever increasing install base rather than trash talking it.

replacing the HDD in a ps3 is easier than making a piece of toast! and they did that on purpose, just by the way

did you not see any threads on changing them over? or even the 2-3 posts above yours which directly relate to (and contradict) your post? or even my link to parso's easy to follow 1-page guide?

anyway nobody's "trash-talking" it, we're simply working out the cheapest ways to get a ps3 with certain specs. so am i to believe that if you saw a DS3 controller for $69 at JB HiFi you would walk straight past and buy it for $99 at EB because you consider the other option "trash talking" or somehow being rude to sony?

Some people have missed the point here.

Look, it's simple! And I'm going to reiterate. on what oz-chappie has already stated, it's too easy.

1. 500GB HDD for PS3 = Very easy to get (you can ask many computer shops/store (on or offline) to sell you one for around 100 bucks) and then chucking it in yourself is as easy as ABC-123.

2. In the first place, SONY Computer Entertainment wouldn't have made it possible to replace your HDD if they knew that it was "risky" or "dangerous".

3. When you replace your HDD, there's a 99% chance that it'll work PERFECTLY fine...which eliminates the "it might work" factor.

4. A $600 PS3 with a 500GB HDD in it sounds good to me. No need to upgrade till the 1TB, I reckon.

5. If I ever purchased the 250GB HDD PS3 next month, I'd immediately replace the HDD with another HDD.

500GB.

All my opinions.

trash talking happens on this forum, yes. but this guy was talking about trash talking A CONSOLE/SONY, not trash talking PEOPLE, which is clearly one of the things you think i have no idea about, which ALSO demonstrates that YOU clearly missed the point - CLARIFIED

is that the point you think i missed or do you have another piece of grammatical genius to throw at me? if you do, please first explain the sentence "whats my opinion when its supporting it right?" cos i DONT understand that, not because i missed the point but because you missed a few english classes
