Beyond Good & Evil is alive and well, screenshot proves it

Fans have been waiting for a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil for almost a decade now, and despite an apparently leaked trailer in 2009, Ubisoft have been rather quiet when speaking about a potential sequel.

All Games Beta have managed to leak a screenshot from that apparent sequel, and Michael Ancel has confirmed that they are still working on the game, albeit quietly.

Ancel and his team have stated that the game "needs more tech" and that they will work out what can actually run it once it's more or less complete.

We are in an active creation stage and at this moment we are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can,” - Michael Ancel, Ubisoft

At this stage we're willing to bet that is as close to an official announcement as we are going to get. For those of you who don't know what Beyond Good & Evil is, we implore you to pick up the HD remake on Xbox Live or PSN, or at least grab the original from GOG.COM for PC gamers.

I miss Jade and Pey'j! One of the most underrated and unacknowledged games in history! The story was so great and the characters so endearing. It makes me wonder how this one was so ignored. So tempted to buy the HD version now, thanks for reminding me. Looking forward to BG&E 2!

As much as I wanted to enjoy the first one, I wasn't able to due to technical issues in both of my copies (on two different platforms; texture issues, unacceptable that there is no way to invert the camera's Y axis without also flipping the X axis, etc.), the mundane combat (ubisoft sure loves their third-person brawling...), uninteresting archetypical characters, anthropomorphic animals, and heavy-handed needlessly pretentious government conspiracy story dripping in post-9/11 social commentary.

I get the feeling ubi's just trolling, trying to make fans think they give a smeg about them by dropping tidbits about the game and then shutting up for years, like EA did with Mirror's Edge 2.
