GC: Sony Cuts PS3 Price in the US, Australia

Sony revealed the long awaited price cut for the PlayStation 3 at their GamesCom keynote this year. The 80GB model of the current PS3 will decrease its price to USD $299 (AUD $361) in North America immediately.

The USD $100 price cut will carry over the the PS3 Slim, which was announced during the same keynote. As such many US gamers are more likely to wait 2 weeks to get their hands on the 120GB slimmer model.

The remaining 'phat' 80GB PS3 stock in Australia will be reduced to $499.95 as of next Monday, August 24. As with America the price will carry over to the PS3 Slim when it is released on September 3. In short if you want a 80GB PS3 hold off until next week.

I just hope they push it down to $450 by the end of the year, they need it to stay in the race this xmas. Or atleast sell it with a good game at no additional cost!

im getting sick of both companies revising their consoles every couple of months and leaving the people who already own the product with "leftovers" so to speak

Its not a bad thing but constant hardware updating instead of putting this sort of thought into the original idea is kinda annoying :/

maybe in a million years time, the tectonic plates causing continental drift will bring Australia closer to the US landmass, maybe then we will be classified as NTSC region and we'll pay $361 AUD for a ps3.

The 120gig xbox 360 elite will retail for $399AU with a game bundled this xmas. The slim "price drop" makes me laugh, I bought a 40gig from the bravia promo for $350. Oz Price needs to be $399 tops.

yeah i paid more (i bought it for $599 brand new)
but ive enjoyed it for 2 years now.
no ways would i wait 2 years, and in the end enjoying my console for 2 years less time, for a saving of $100....and in the end get the cheap slim console..

I agree Teknikal! However there is a hidden bonus in waiting two years for the cheaper model and reading reviews about great games - you get to save yourself $100 which works out to a whopping 13.7 cents each day!

You may as well upgrade your hard drive to a 500gb and stay ahead of the new slimline ps3, but it apparently uses a third less power and the fan is "silent"... Go get a system intercooler and a hard drive instead and keep the chunky model - has more hugability to it me thinks..

It's pretty funny how some people are selling a brand new PS3 slim for over $600 dollars in ebay LMAO. I wonder who would be idiotic enough to pay for that.... and thats not even including postage and handling... you can add an extra $40 bucks to that ROFL
