Google ISP ?

Google Has Announced that it plans a trial of a "fiber to the home" (thats fiber optical cables run from the exchange to a house for those that dont know) network to 50,000 potentaly 500,000 people. This network could potentaly provide speeds of up to 1 gigabit per seconed.

If the trial succeds google will know just about everything people do on the web, is it safe for one company to have such power ?

my understanding is the trial is only avalible in north america

Its gigabit, not gigabyte

1 gigabit = 125 megabits
1 megabit = 125 kilobytes

1 Gigabit would equal to 1,000 Megabits xD

This is only in the US for now.

It's a good thing, I'm pretty sure Japan has 1GBps for most of their homes in the city.

Wouldn't be too worried about privacy, ISP's have to agree to a strict code of conduct.

Anyone heard of the consiracy theory that Google is trying to essentially create artificial intelligence by networking the world so close that with all the computers on the internet providing the processing power this can be acheived? kind of like how the brain is comprised of millions of cells working together etc. This could lend a little evidence to that theory of increasing badwidth. they can already catalaogue just about anything anyones interested in...

Good point but i still think that it would be more beneficial for them. There way of thinking is different to mine and they are more experienced so they are probably right. And its Google, Google is always right
