Sony Computer Entertainment of America thinks it would be anti-consumer to block used games with the PlayStation 4, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter.
Mr Pachter said he asked the company's CEO, Jack Tretton, "point blank" about his personal view on blocking used games in future consoles, to which Tretton said he was completely opposed to the notion.
"For the record, I'm totally opposed to blocking used games," said Mr Tretton, according to Pachter. "I think it is great for the consumer that they can buy those."
Mr Tretton mentioned that blocking used games would make it difficult for consumers that buy hardware "late in the cycle".
However, he admitted that "maybe Japan will think something different", reminding us that major hardware design choices are dictated by the Japanese market, and not entirely by the North American one.
