Devil's Third, the upcoming action game by former Ninja Gaiden developer Tomonobu Itagaki, is currently facing the unknown in terms of release as publisher THQ have decided the game no longer "fits THQ's profile".
CEO Brian Farrell made it clear during THQ's recent earnings call that THQ no longer wants to publish the game, and that the company was in discussions with other publishers regarding Devil Third's future.
The reasoning behind the decision was that when the company "ranked all of our product releases when we underwent our restructuring, profitability of Devil's Third wasn't comparable with our other franchises."
Farrell revealed that during development, Devil's Third had to switch to a customised version of the Relic proprietary engine used in THQ's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, as the company behind the game's original engine went out of business.
THQ's recent "restructuring" has also included its efforts to find a partner for its upcoming Warhammer 40,000 title Dark Millenium Online, and shifting the game's original MMO design to a single-player and online multiplayer game.
