Timesplitters 4 is not in development at Crytek, the UK-based developer has confirmed.
"No, it's not in development," a developer spokesperson said when quizzed about the rumoured game’s existance.
The Timesplitters series was a massive hit last generation, with the last game, Future Perfect, being released in 2005 on all three seventh generation consoles.
However, the series has been on hiatus since, which is unfortuate considering the critical success it received upon its releases.
"For Timesplitters 4, with ever spiralling development costs, massive teams and endless crunch we decided on a more radical development strategy,” the developer joked.
"In short, the experiment was to implement the infinite monkey theorem. With cloning being a far too expensive option, we spent all of the development budget on buying monkeys on the black market.
"Those seven monkeys are now sat in a room with typewriters and lots of mirrors, and we fully expect Timesplitters 4 to be finished soon.”
So in other words: don’t expect the game any time soon.
