Bet on how many PS4s will be sold in Australia with Sportsbet

How confident are you that the PlayStation 4 is going to sellout in Australia at launch?

Sportsbet is taking bets on how many PS4 consoles will be sold in Australia during its first 10 days on sale — bet here if you're a gambling type.

Over 40,000 consoles is the favourite, with odds backed to $1.25.

Between 35,000-40,000 offers a better return at $5, while the unlikely scenario of under 20,000 units is paying $21.

Is anyone actually going to place a bet?

Thanks to RobZombbie in the forums!

lol you will upset a few people around @Seanybruz =)
Depends on how many sony send over....
So because more people think it'll sell over 40k, the winning amount is only 1.25x what you bet? I don't gamble so I don't understand. @_@ :P

Yes. Simply, odds are generally determined by how people are betting. More bets = shorter odds.
Dumb, pretty much it really.
If I was betting, I'd probably bet 35001-40,000

But I'm terrible at betting. :P
Well, the PS3 sold a bit over 27,000 in the first ten days, and while I hate to admit it, I just don't think the PS4 will sell much better to start off with. It's the sort of thing that most people will buy over time when more games are released. Unless of course you're one of those awesome launch-day people :D
If there was a more than the Xbone option (which I think the PS4 may actually obliterate the Xbone's 10 day figures in Australia), Sportsbet would've suspended betting on it by now due to the massive plunge on that option
12.

From what we know, pre-orders are generally far above the PS3's launch - the PS4 has been sold out for launch in Australia for months now - so it'll all come down to how much stock Sony can ship into the country (supply), the demand maxed out months ago.

If Sony got 27K PS3s, with all the trouble they had manufacturing it, in the first 10 days, I think over 40K is a very safe bet, and betting under 27K would be insanity.

Anyone with insider info could make a _lot_ of money here - given we already know it's limited by supply, and supply will be a fairly known factor before launch, insiders could make a packet. Assume there's rules against insiders betting, but am surprised they allowed this to go up, looks like a losing proposition for Sportsbet if the wrong people find out about it.
Betting is stupid. [Facepalm]

So, more bets = shorter odds = less winnings if won? So if I bet $1 on it selling over 40k, I'll make $1.25?

Every time I have gambled at the casino, I have lost. X_X
I find it amusing how a lot of people are saying that the Xbone and PS4 will own the Wii U, yet the Wii U sold 400,000 in the first week. Not to be bias or anything (I may be getting a PS4 if there are any games that interest me), but that's a lot more sales than the numbers that we're estimating here.
