In an interesting analysis of the free-to-play MMO DC Universe Online, it has been revealed that 70% of regular players are actually PS3 gamers.
The game originally launched on PC and PS3 with a subscription-based model, but was quickly swapped into the free-to-play market after dwindling subscribers.
Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley believes that this staggering statistic proves that the free-to-play console market is more than viable.
There's a lot of people that go through that store and it's so easy to find and download these games that it's a great business model. A lot of people have already stored their credit card information so it's very frictionless if they do want to buy something. It's a business model of the future." - John Smedley, SOE
