Announced over the weekend was the upcoming patch for
'Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots'. It was confirmed that the new patch will go live today for Japan, though it wasn't affirmed for the rest of the world. There wasn't a reassurance that it may be a worldwide launch, but it seems now that it may just be!?
Patch Version 2.00 is now live to download for the game in the PAL and Japan regions. Upon starting the game, it will prompt you to download a
516mb patch. (this may take roughly 12 minutes to complete for the average adsl2+ internet speed).
Prior to accepting the download, a revision of what the patch consists of will appear and as follows;
Features Revised in Version 2.00
[Notes]
- Saved data created before this update cannot be used to earn trophies
- Saved data created after this update cannot be used as pre-update saved data
[Changes]
- Trophies added
- Full Install feature added
- METAL GEAR ONLINE menu item and data deleted as the service has now finished
OK
...and then another message appears once download is accomplished;
Thank you for playing METAL GEAR ONLINE.
As the METAL GEAR ONLINE service has now finished, all associated installed data will be deleted.
OK
METAL GEAR ONLINE installed data deleted.
OK
Finally, the game will also permit you to perform a full game data installation. The data required to do this is a massive
9gb of hard disk drive storage space!!
[It's been mentioned that it may take around 16 minutes to complete, but my experience too less]
When the game was released in 2008, the game install was already an enormous 5gb of data, which at the time was the biggest for a PS3 game. Now this apparently tops it...once again!
There are also
34 Trophies in total to be unlocked for the game, of which 15 are not identified (hidden trophies) until you've unlocked them.
While data installation is underway and kicking back watching
Old Snake smoke his cigarette during that time, you can finally relive Snakes' tales without the need to install more game data for each chapter breaks.
The North American region should be receiving their patch soon after.
