The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) Australia will be held in Melbourne in 2013 and 2014, it has been confirmed this morning.

The Melbourne location was first reported last month, but event organisers refused to comment until they confirmed it today.

As expected, PAX Australia will run from July 19-21 at the Melbourne Showgrounds and is managed by PAX and ReedPOP.

"This is the first time the event has been held outside the United States and attracting PAX Australia to Melbourne was a major coup for Victoria," said Victorian Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher. "It is a great opportunity to showcase games culture in Australia to the rest of the world, and the exposure around the region and the world that Melbourne’s games industry will gain from the event, and the number of international and domestic visitors that will be drawn to Melbourne, cannot be underestimated."

Penny Arcade President Robert Khoo jointly made the announcement, and explained why Melbourne was the first city chosen outside of the US.

"Melbourne has a long history of supporting the games scene, through showcasing cultural game exhibits to supporting world renowned game developers. Holding PAX Australia in Melbourne is the perfect fit for our show," said Mr Khoo.

You can buy passes online now, starting at $45 for one day, and $115 for a three-day pass.

It's the biggest consumer gaming event in the US, and now it's coming to Australia!
The biggest?! I've been hiding under a rock [Facepalm]

that's pretty big if its the first time outside the US. go Melbourne!

I do know of E3!

E3 is a media and trade event -- so the public can't attend. PAX is even bigger because consumers can attend :D
This will be great. Melbourne needs more gaming events.
Purchasing my tickets later this week.
I'll be attending ;)
Pretty much everyone from MMGN should be there, assuming I can charm a few media passes out of them [Shifty]
Thinking Of Going Next Year
Going to try and make it to this :D

Need some tickets though. Hopefully they still have some by next week.

I'm going to rock up at MMGN HQ on the first night with a carton of beer and a sleeping bag, when the hotels are all full. :P

Do it!
I was going to visit last time, but I wasn't in melbourne until late on friday, and I figured you lazy sods didn't work weekends ;)

Did see Heller and a few others at the failcomic-con.
Does anyone know if this will sell out?

July is a fair way off and I have no idea if I'm going to be able to go yet or not.
I'm guessing it will?

I'm going to attempt to get tickets tonight otherwise I will have to wait till next week.

I've also heard that the venue isnt massive either? Is this true Melbournians?
I'd make my way down to mecico for pax. 3 day pass isn't too expensive either.

Never been there before.

But surely the Showgrounds are fairly large, even Adelaide's is big [Shifty]
My brother said it is pretty big and has both indoors and out but not sure if they would use the outdoors.

Bought some tickets just incase, also noticed they're cheaper if you buy them early.

I think it will, but not for a while.

Only the really keen people will be buying tickets now.
I had thought it was already confirmed but good to see its staying for more than one year.

from the sounds of it, it looks like it'll be a sell out.

how much are tix and whats the capacity?

I'm buying mine, and already sorting out hotels and planes.
After the nightmare that was Oz Comic-con, one can never be too prepared.

That's why I hate that you need to nominate your day you want to attend unless you're getting the full pass, I don't know what day I'll go until at least a few weeks before it.

I'm keen! I have my tickets.

Going to sort out accommodation and what not in January I think. I'm far too broke to even consider it yet.
We'll just all have a sleepover at MMGN, in the server room to keep warm.
I AM SO GOING!!!
