Sony sees the PS4 as a disc based platform

Sony sees the future of PS4 games on Blu-ray.

Sony's Jim Ryan told IGN that despite a growing trend towards digital distribution, Blu-ray is the future of PlayStation 4.

"Clearly, and this applies not just to games but to pretty much every form of entertainment, there is a trend to increased digital consumption, and that is happening now on PS3 and will continue and will probably accelerate on PS4," Ryan told IGN.

"But the primary delivery mechanism for the big games on the PS4 platform will continue to be Blu-ray discs, for the foreseeable future."

Sony has increased its digital content on PS3 over the last two years, but still pushes consumers to buying the physical disc. Particularly in Australia, digital versions of a game often cost more than buying it from a store.

Both. If you have the bandwidth you can go fully digital. If you don't the Discs are there. Best of both worlds. :P
