Treyarch talks Black Ops 2 scorestreaks, death streaks and 'revenge voice'

Black Ops 2 game director, David Vonderhaar, has revealed new details about the game's multiplayer component.

When asked about the infamous 'Second Chance' perk (otherwise known as "Last Chance" or "Final Stand"), Mr Vonderhaar confirmed that no "downed" state perk would exist in the game.

"There's no combination whatsoever of perk or deathstreak that puts the guy in the 'downed' state in multiplayer," he explained. While the "revival state" would appear in the Zombies mode, "it's not in multiplayer". There is simply "no Final Stand or equivilent of it."

The game's new "scorestreak" system was also questioned, namely its looping functionality that could potentially lead to exploitation by players. However, Mr Vonderhaar confirmed that scorestreak rewards that haven't been spent won't add up once you re-earn them.

"Let's say you took the UAV and Counter UAV. If you earned the UAV then earned the Counter UAV, you're going to start building again for the UAV - but if you haven't spent it, if you haven't called it in or activated it, you're not going to get a second one."

He said players would "definitely want to activate those scorestreaks" so that "when you look, you'll get them again".

As for the aggressive non-camper type player, Mr Vonderhaar explained that more score is given for "aggressive-style actions".

"For example, capturing a flag required you to get a flag in the first place. Those things are harder to do than, say, sitting at the back of your base, defending your flag."

The interesting "Revenge Voice by Treyarch", which turns an enemy's mic on for a few seconds after you've killed them, was also explained.

"It's an option that you can turn on and off in custom games. It's on in public games; we can turn it off in league play if we want. We love that thing -- it's funny."

Hasn't this always been the case in every COD installment though ? No matter which Match type, if it's objective driven you were always going to get more score than picking off players. capturing flags, capturing HQ's, etc.
Yes you are right but there were players that did sit back for their team and camped those objectives so it was made impossible for that team to capture the objective.
For objective type modes this made Cod rather boring and you needed a clan to play objective type modes, not everyone wants to be in a clan.

I like the sound of what Treyarch have done to Black Ops II to try and stop camping and have all or most players playing aggressively, running around and having fun.

I thought the same, yeah.

In Domination for example, it's 50 for a kill, 150 for a capture, 100 for a defend and 100 for killing a defender.

Maybe it will be less for a kill, more for a team action?

So, 30 for a kill, 200 for a capture, 100 for UAV, 50 for a defend? Something like that...

That irritates me most about Domination. I don't play in a clan, but I am a team first, kill second kind of guy: I want captures, and frequently end up with "Most Points Captured", with highest score for the game, but maybe 3rd or 4th in kills.

It frustrates me when I'm trying to capture a point and my teammates just run past me, without looking out for me or anything, and I eventually die.

I can handle dying when I'm trying to capture something by myself, but when teammates just ignore the objective, it irritates me soooooo much.

That is awesome news. I am a completely aggressive player and shooters these days are just atrocious for people like me because there are just nothing but campers now. With updated graphics making campers much harder to see, and atrocious netcoding meaning hit registration will no longer save you if you pull of successful snap shots - there is little fun to be had anymore unless you are a camper.

Nice to see someone actually doing something about that. Campers in today's games are a lot more destructive to my fun than they were back in the Counter-Strike days where you could overcome the advantage with skill. Games of today are constantly removing any skill to appeal to a wider audience which just means you are effectively screwed if you move around [Facepalm]

What they should do is reduce the score you get for a kill based on the last time you moved. As in if you were sprinting and stopped for a second before getting a kill, you would get more points than a player who has not moved for say 5 seconds. They can definitely do this, even CS1.5 had anti-camping mods that would say beacon or explode a player who was idle for over 10 seconds or something.

Nice to see some sort of score penalty for sitting in a house picking people off who have more balls than you.

Yes can confirm, defiantly in MW3, it wasn't in from the beginning it was added in a patch somewhere along the way...

EDIT: I only play on PS3 though, so unless they didn't add it to the 360 version for some reason.
I'm almost done with CoD. I'm only getting this for Zombies, and nothing else. Everything else is a bonus, I guess. An extremely frustrating, camper-filled, and -might I add- little kid filled bonus. Campaign looks decent. I may give it a shot, but, like I said, I'm only getting it for Zombies. :S
